Guest guest
Irma and I have talked re various things that are related to group homes once a family decides to place their adult child with an agency. Here are a couple links you may find interesting. CARF – Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities – In IL an agency that provides residential/vocational services for adults has to have some accreditation. Where lives they have accreditation from CARF their link is HYPERLINK " http://www.carf.org/ " http://www.carf.org/ . CARF is a national organization that accredits agencies so they probably do so in your state. Glenkirk, the agency where lives in a CILA – Community Integrated Living Arrangement sometimes referred to a group home recently had one of their staff speak at the CARF conference. On Glenkirk’s website are handouts made available from that conference, that site is HYPERLINK " http://glenkirk.org/carf%20presentation.html " http://glenkirk.org/carf%20pre sentation.html. ISP Individual Service Plans are geared around the Person Centered Plan, all about the person making choices. The state of Illinois website explaining CILA HYPERLINK " http://www.dhs.state.il.us/mhdd/dd/CommunityIntegratedLivingArrangement.asp " http://www.dhs.state.il.us/mhdd/dd/CommunityIntegratedLivingArrangement.asp and if you really want to read more here is the link to the Administrative Code for CILA’s HYPERLINK " http://www.ilga.gov/commission/jcar/admincode/059/05900115sections.html " htt p://www.ilga.gov/commission/jcar/admincode/059/05900115sections.html Happy reading. Guest guest
Thanks Louise. We just had Maddie's IEP last week, and since she is turning 14 next month, transitioning is on it. Scares the bejesus out of me. But they made me feel better actually......like they would be there to *hold our hands* through it all. They said they'd make sure Maddie was not left by the wayside, and would be placed in a program (and living arrangement, if we so wanted) that will best suit her. The social worker will contact me, so we can talk about how best to *work the system* (I told them we'd move to the most *agreeable* county to have Maddie stay at MM). They talked about changes in adult living through Melmark, and they sound very excited. One of the programs they are working on is a post-secondary program, which would include ALL students at Melmark, even one as challenged as Maddie. It's not there yet, but 21 is 7 years away for us, so maybe something will happen. They just adore her at MM. They are so proud of her. They videotaped her working on choosing from her PECS book, to show us how well she is doing with it. They also made me an identical book to the one they use at school, so we'd have more consistency. Her ST told me that any time I want to add one, just send her the picture, and she'll make me an icon. I love this new ST!!!!
