Guest guest
Hi, Everyone....I am reading these responses and didn't realize how hard it is for others to find clothes. I do sew and have always altered Gareth's pants and sleeves. If there is anyone out there looking for someone to tailor their kids clothes, please let me know and I can do it for you. You would have to mark where/how you want them altered and send them to me. It would be great if someone knew how to get a line of clothes going. I'd be the first to sign up as a sewer/alterer/designer. Take care, Everyone. Guest guest
Margaret, I also sew. I alter all Elie's pants for school. I have in the past adjusted shirt collar buttons. I even looked for a pattern to make a dress shirt but found that required I have pattern making skill beyond me. The same with trying to make a suit. There are patterns out there, but the alterations I would have to make to the pattern are enormous. If I could get a pattern, I could sew. > Hi, Everyone....I am reading these responses and didn't realize how hard > it > is for others to find clothes. Guest guest
Margaret, I am with you on the clothes line for our kids clothing. I cannot believe there is not a store that carries special needs clothing. There are so many disabilities and if you do find special clothes you have to be rich to afford them. I work with a new employee that said she had an alteration bus. in another city that catered to special needs clothing. I told her I need a seat cover for my couch and seat in my car that will not let water/or urine through. wears 2 pullups and urinates through his clothes. I should have learned to sew when momma wanted to teach me but I was not interested. Now I am paying the price. Once I was going to order a 1 piece outfit to keep kids from fecal smearing but the outfit was like $200. Ouch I could not afford to do that. This will be the last year I will be able to find one piece sleepers that will fit in size 14/16 boys. I am sorry for Gareth that he has been so sick and for you taking care of him.Is he better now? Guest guest
There are clothing companies which cater to those with phys dis or infirmities requiring tube openings, side closings, front drop slacks. Not one of them make dress clothes for men (Some do make dresier clothes for women). But I am not giving up. My Amish contact has a couple of leads she is following up in Lancaster COunty, I have a lead into the orthodox community. I will report back as my informers report to me. BTW - I priced a custome made suit on line -$5-800 or one company will make 2 suits and a blazer and slacks for a mere $1600-1800!!!! Needlkess to say, that I am NOT pursuing that option. > Margaret, I am with you on the clothes line for our kids clothing. Guest guest
Sara, I will have this problem in a few years. Zeb will need a suit for HS class night and graduation. Wishful thinking, if he makes it that far. My bil has a friend from Italy that he went to college with. He has a tailor shop a few towns away. The shop burnt last year and he is in the process of rebuilding. I'd better save my pennies. Guest guest
I had another odea. I know that when I worked for London Fog, beofre it like other companies went NAFTA, that many patternmakers and seamstresses working in our factories in this country were made unemployed. Does anyone know #1 - a patternmaker??? I am thinking that if we could get a patternmaker to make a few basic patterns for our shape people, that there might be a business there. First the paatterns, then some talented seamstresses. But the patterns are basic. What do you think? In this day and age, if we had a pattern, spome of us could find old time (or unterested in new time, desin and sewing people. In fact, writing this, I got an idea. After the first, I am calling the College of art and design in Atlanta and ask if a student would like a project. Anyone want to try the fashion places where they live? There is a school in NY, PHL that I know of. Maybe some other place in this country as well. A revolution- clothes for special people that will help them indeed look special - fashion special!!! > Sara, I will have this problem in a few years. Guest guest
i too love to sew, its my hobby, make quilts and wall hangings table runners curtaisn etc, tried clothes once a long while back when it was harder to find clothing for nathan but had a very difficult time also with the patterns, also i found out much later as my skills have developed is that clothing is much easier made with a serger machine instead of a sewing machine. i do mend and alter the few things needed around here, but otherwise i have never ventured back to clothing part of sewing. shawna In a message dated 12/15/2007 2:12:03 P.M.
