Guest guest
Sara, The Dr. Phil's show contacted be to talk about but had not decided to due a show on autism. One of the producers Brook told me if they decided to due a show on autism they would get back in touch with me. When my husband found out from your message that the Dr. Phil show was now doing a show on autism we went to the website. After reading this shows content for autism my husand said our family must have not been Jerry Springer enougn for the Dr. PHil show. I am never at home in time to watch Dr. PHil this year but my husband said before he is doing more Jerry Springer type fighting especially with the Dr. Phil house.I think it is sad that this is what America wants to see, trash and fighting. I hope they help this lady with her autistic child that said he wants to kill her. I emailed the producer but I have not heard back. Guest guest
I will wait until Wednesday and see what is going on. I have been very saddened at how Dr. Phil aand MONTEL have sunk to sensationalism to get ratings. But even saying that - there are occasional diamonds amongst the manure. Maybe this will be one. > Sara, The Dr. Phil's show contacted be to talk about but had not > decided to due a show on autism. Guest guest
BTW - you can see most of Dr. Phil's shows from his website. You don't have to watch the video but can get the script and scroll down - I often check shows I have missed on topics of interest by doing this. > I will wait until Wednesday and see what is going on. Guest guest
Here's a summary from another list: Sherry THIS Wednesday on Dr. Phil: Wednesday Parents' Ultimate Test: Dealing with Autism The ultimate test for any parent is loving a child who is difficult, sometimes frightening, to the whole family. It's a test parents of autistic children are put to daily. Ten-year-old Luce throws screaming tantrums, barks like a dog, and tells his mother, , that he plans to kill her. has long felt despair at Luce's out- of-control behavior, yet she was shocked when a doctor diagnosed him with autism. Go inside the daily life of this family, see Luce's wild behavior caught on tape, and learn why 's main coping mechanisms might be putting her at risk. Then, a member of Dr. Phil's own staff achieved miraculous results for her autistic child and her whole family through an intensive program. Could a similar treatment work for Luce? Plus, what causes autism? Several recent media reports and high-profile parents, such as McCarthy, have pointed the finger at vaccinations. Is there a link? Child care expert and pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears weighs in. Then, imagine having a crime committed against you, but not having a voice or any way to tell someone you'd been wronged. Some mothers in Las Vegas say that's exactly what happened when a teacher allegedly abused their autistic children, and they've filed a lawsuit. Hear them recount the painful details of the alleged abuse. What are their chances of winning in court?
Guest guest
I did not see this Dr. Phil but was curious as to what intensive program did Dr. Phil's staff try that achieve " miraculous results " ? We have truly tried every treatment I have found with the exception of Sunrise. Our son has not shown any " miraculous results " so after much money spent with no results I am quite skeptical. Also we are going to a gastrointestinal specialist today. Colton is frequently constipated and then has too loose of stools when we give him a prescription medication for this problem. Have any of you had success in this area? Thank you, Lori, mom to Colton, 12 y.o., DS and ASD
Guest guest
Hi Lori, Has Colton tried Miralax yet? My son, , was so constipated before, but not anymore due to this over-the-counter product. Dr. Capone from KKI recommended it, as well as our local pediatrician. It can be given chronically without concern. Guest guest
We had a similaar problem when Elie was 10-12. The GI doc said that due to flaccid muscles (low tone) that Elie was retaining stool and that the resultant diarrhea like stool was spill over. HE stated the real problem was constipation. Elie was put on the precursor to MIRALAX, Metamusil, and within months the problem was solved . I like Miralax better as it dissolves better. But we haven't used it for ELie for YEARS> This also hampered his being toilet trained for bowel. You don;t mention if that is an issue with COlton. I don't know what this show will be about. Somehow I missed it the first time. Maybe Iw as in my fed up stage with autism - I do get there. But I will be watching this time. > I did not see this Dr. Phil but was curious as to what intensive > program did Dr. Phil's staff try that achieve " miraculous results " ? > We have truly tried every treatment I have found with the exception > of Sunrise. Guest guest
Lori, Have you ever tried food grade Aloe Vera Juice? Excellent for GI issues from reflux, constipation, IBS, Celiac, Crones, ulcers etc... and all natural with no side effects. Start out slowly and increase amount, check for allergy as with any new food or herbal, natural food. Purchase at health food store, some drug stores, Trader Joes, etc. Aloe Life brand is concentrated and you only need to start with an oz or so mixed in favorite juice or plain. If your child has reflux you can feel this neutralize acid immediately as it goes down esophogus. It contains tons of amino acids. Over time it HEALS GI tissue, not just treats symptoms. I am a pediatric OT that specializes in feeding therapy. Some docs I know poop-poop this natural stuff, but many families I work with have had great results. My son (ds-asd) and I both drink this daily and love the results. IT CAN'T HURT TO TRY unlike lots of meds with severe side effects. Guest guest
BE VERY CAREFUL with ALOE. SOme people get SEVER LIFE THREATENING allergic reactions to this. For example - I used some to treat a minor burn - I developed a second degree burn from it. Tried it again for cracking finger tips - weepy rash developed. Went to a dermatologist who told me that for some people it is magic - for other people it is an acute allergen and caustic agent. BE CAREFUL. > Lori, > > Have you ever tried food grade Aloe Vera Juice? Excellent for GI issues > from reflux, constipation, IBS, Celiac, Crones, ulcers etc... and all > natural with no side effects. Guest guest
Thank you for your reply. We have tried miralax but it gives him diarrhea. We went to the GI today and they are going to test him for Hirschsprung disease. I have never heard of it but the doctor said it was more prevalent in individuals with DS. Until the test results are in the doctor prescribed Senacot. We have tried that before but will try it again. Thanks again, Lori

Guest guest
Yes, we are using Glycolax (used to be Miralax) for our son who has the same problem. We went through a lot of things before we tried this & it is the best. He gets it every night before bed and usually has a BM every night or every other night. , mom to 15, PDD-NOS **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
Guest guest
It just aired here at 3 PM. Overall it was pretty good; much better and more balanced than the Oprah show, in my opinion, and I was pleasantly surprised. Beth Re: Dr. Phil and Autism When is the Dr. Phil show to air? Guest guest
I liked it as well. He showed that life is not all rah rah rah and that it is HARD! I also like that he touched on the guys leaving to escape the chaos. I thought he did a good job. Holly Re: Dr. Phil and Autism When is the Dr. Phil show to air? Guest guest
<< I also like that he touched on the guys leaving to escape the chaos. (just a little ticked off that dh is ALWAYS working when the poop hits the fan and he hasn't taken one of his allowed paid 2 week vacations in over 4 years.) Gee you think he'd rather be at work? I thought it was a pretty balanced show actually. Sherry
Guest guest
I thought he did a good job of letting the world know how very difficult our lives can be. Too bad all the kids were so young!!! My dh said that there was not enough said about various treatments. I was pleased - not sensationalized. Oh - except for the abuse by the one teacher - that seems to be a nationwide problem for our children. My son was abused by a teaacher (other staff squealed anonymously), others on this list have detailed it, here in GA there are 2 or 3 counties where there are teacher abuse scandals. > It just aired here at 3 PM.
