Guest guest
I didn't even know that Kayla was doing the peripheral vision thing until the ABA provider (who also happens to be a Vision Therapist) pointed it out. We noticed Kayla does a lot of things without looking, and the therapist explained that a lot of kids use their peripheral vision instead of looking at the object (I wasn't sure if she meant a lot of kids with Down syndrome or a lot of kids with autism). So one of our first tasks is to do a form puzzle and have Kayla actually look at the puzzle while she's doing it. Ecki Mom to Kayla (DS/ASD, 4/5/04) and Laurie (PDD-NOS, 7/12/01) > The hand > flapping has stopped though and my daughter still > pushes on her eyes on the side to use peripheral > vision and we just redirect and reinforce for > appropriate use of her eyes. She also is getting > vision therapy once a week to help to use central > vision. > Sharon
