Hi, Everyone........this use to be Gareth. He would slam his head on

the tile floor and act like it never bothered him. Absolutely no pain from

it. It was sooooooooooo scary!!! I had visions of taking him to the ER

unconscious and them finding numerous healed concussions and, then, charging me

with child endangerment. Back then, ten yrs ago, there was very little

available for autistic kids. There were other benefits to the Risperdal beside

the

SIB stopping........the teeth grinding stopped, he slept through the night,

the non-stop growling stopped, he started TALKING, you could connect and

reason with him, thus preventing many outbursts, and the flop and drop

stopped!!!

Start low and go slow....many of our kids seem to do very well on the lower

dosages.

Sherry.....you and I both know the guilt and embarrassment I had from

putting Gareth on meds years ago. I felt the same way, but when the one lady

posted (help me out here....I think you're from outside Philly) about her son

being blinded by head banging, I knew I had to do something. If you are

starting

a new GERD med, wait and see on that one first so you will know if it is

working OK or not. I agree, I wouldn't try 2 new meds at once.

BTW....I kept all of G's extra receipts for J,J, and August to take to the

new SSI office. Even though he (ME) would spend over $200 more than the $$$

given to him, he still doesn't qualify for the full amt!!! Go figure!!! The

lady said it was based on the monthly bills..........yes, I know that, and

what we charge. Well, we charged him the $350/$415 for 'his fair share' and we

should be charging him $530. DUH.........he doesn't get enough to charge

him $530!!! So, now I have charge him more $$$ and take away his spending $$$

for him to get the full amt. I will try again when we move into the new

house in Jan.
