Guest guest
I just saw a video about the Buddy Walk that said there are 350,000 people with DS in the country. Does that mean that at 7% we have 24,500 people in the US with the dual dx?? Possibly as high as 35,000? And only 923 of us here. Wow. I just never thought of it in terms of those kinds of numbers before. I've somehow undertaken the thankless task of informing a couple of DS groups I'm on that even tho people like McCarthy and others are all up in arms over the mind boggling numbers of Autism now being at 1 in 150, maybe our DS support groups and email lists should be paying attention to the fact that we have SEVEN in 100 (at least) with Autism in the DS community. I'm kind of pushing for this info to be made more public but as you know most families with regular DS don't want to focus on anything negative about DS. It seems to me like the adversities are so downplayed because God forbid we tell the truth and some new Mom aborts her baby because of it. I've been feeling the effects of what in essence to me seems a segregation in the DS community. OK done rambling. Sherry
