Guest guest
I bought some compost for the garden this spring and just wrote Alvin for more. I have hens from Alvin, but need more than my small flock can produce. I expanded the garden this spring. It's beginning terra preta with buried fish, kitchen compost and compost from Alvin. It will really take off next year. I'm already seeing an increase in worms, assuming microorganisms. Another use for this compost is small trees. We had 4 baby trees along the deck that were growing slowly. I want shade for the deck and made composted manure from my hens that I got from Alvin. I just sprinkled it around the trees spring and fall and let the rain and snow wash it in. They have doubled in size each year since I started doing it. Last summer, we did an addition to make the house handicapped accessible and the construction workers (who also farm) couldn't believe the summer tree growth and asked my husband what we did. All we did was sprinkle composted chicken manure around the trees and let it work it's way in the soil through rain and snow. Kathy
