Congratulations on getting your amalgums removed! The business manager at my

dentists rings a bell and shouts one more person is amalgum-free, whenever that

happens! And you get a button to wear as well! So ring that bell! One question

what is oil pulling? Thanks,

Hi ,

Oil pulling is basically swishing a mouthful of

unrefined sesame oil around in your mouth (and

gargling it) for 5 - 20 minutes several times a day,

following with a salt and baking soda rinse/gargle.

Theory being that the oil 'pulls' toxins from the

bloodstream through the thin skin of one's gums.

Apparently our entire blood volume circulates through

the gums in approximately 20 minutes. Tonsils and

surrounding tissues (for those of us with no tonsils)

are significant filters as well, so the gargling gets

more ugly stuff out that way too. When you spit out

the oil, (never swallow!) it is thin and white,

supposedly a sign that it has pulled out toxins and

evil beasties.

FYI on oil pulling: Per the website www.oilpulling.com , you are to use

refined oil (not unrefined). The website is great for answering any

questions about oil pulling.

Thanks very much for explaining this. Sounds amazing. Why is sesame the oil of

choice?

I've tried it a few times with olive oil. I use it mostly when I am

feeling the worst, but I haven't noticed much improvement.

Has anyone tried this? I've done a google search and found a few

promising testimonials, but that's about it. Nothing major and nothing

that appears as medical endorsement. Was just wondering if anyone here

had any experience with it and what outcomes came of it?

I guess my first message didn't get through. I have tried it a few

times with olive oil, usually when I am feeling my worst, but I

haven't noticed much of a difference. Liz

I've read several different places discussing oil pulling and have

found a range of opinions. My first impression is that it sounded like

a hoax/myth/whooey. Of course, its simplicity and low cost made me

consider I had nothing to lose.

What I've read is that people have tried it with a range of oils. It's

implied in the more conservative documentation that it works best with

cold pressed sunflower or cold pressed sesame.

Here's my experience thus far. I've tried it three times. My mouth

definitely feels cleaner and the white coating on my tongue is not

quite as white and the pink is showing through more.(I might have

thought this was imagination except my daily tongue scrapping has

backed me up on this idea.) It also helps clear out phlem which is

nice with the sinus stuff. I've had some symptoms that could be

considered mild herx-like symptoms or perhaps I really am fighting off

a little bug. I da' know. I guess time will tell more. Anyway, I

committed I'd try it for a week just to see.

I really hesitated to ask if anyone else had tried this crazy sounding

technique or knew anyone who had? I'm still stuggling to logically

make it make sense. Then I thought about how many lyme doctors think

with regards to antibiotics " risks vs benefits " , heck . . . I'd be

willing to take a placebo effect right now - as long as it was

long-term! : )

If anyone does know anything, please share. Of course, there is the

possibility of neurolyme and I may have just completely lost my mind.

I have heard all sorts of things about oil pulling: that is this hugely

detoxifying, that it is minorly detoxifying, that it's good for a

toothache and good for your teeth in general. I did it faithfully for a

few weeks and didn't notice any difference with anything but I guess it

depends on the reason you are doing it: for an overall detoxifying

effect or for a specific tooth problem, etc. My friend did it in the

hopes of helping one of his teeth but he ended up getting it pulled by

the dentist. I would be interested in meeting/talking to someone

firsthand who has received benefits from it to see exactly how long it

took to see results and how they went about it. It doesn't seem to be

one of those things that can hurt you by doing it unlike, fasting,

chelation, etc.

I've tried it off and on. I haven't noticed any detox effects but

never did it days in a row, mostly in response to sore teeth or bad

breath. I can say that it makes the teeth very very clean (after you

do it and then brush). It seems to loosen up plaque so it can be

brushed off. The times I had sore teeth from something (popcorn

hull) stuck between tooth and gum I did oil pulling and applied

iodine, and in an extreme case swished salt water too. It was cured

the next day when I woke up. I used coconut oil because it was the

only cold-pressed oil I have around.

Hi,

I'm doing some writing work with an alternative medical doctor in St.

Louis who is recommending oil-pulling to all his patients. I spoke to

several of his patients who say that the detox from oil-pulling has

helped them tremendously. I don't remember any stories about how long

they had to do the oil-pulling before they noticed positive changes.

I do remember one patient was upset when her dentist asked her to

discontinue oil-pulling temporarily before a dental procedure.

Here's a Web site with information:

I remember Deepak Chapra (however you spell it) saying that oil pulling

got rid of germs in your gums and that gum germs affected your whole

body and is why dentists sometimes give you antibiotics before pulling

teeth, especially if you're old.

Then I think the Chloride Magnesium people said the same. Probably many

oils, like coconut, are good.
