Guest guest
Hello! I'm Beth, and my 7-year-old son has DS, is a leukemia survivor (off treatment 4 months) and was just diagnosed with autism. He is also sunny and lovey and happy, low tone, very language delayed, cute as a button, not toilet trained, etc. How do you paint a picture of someone you love in two sentences? I also have three other great guys, , 14, and , 11, and hubby Brad. I look forward to learning and sharing here. I have a couple of immediate questions: 1. Is anyone's child on medication? 's developmental ped is recommending Daytrana (an ADHD drug) with either Zoloft (antidepressant/anxiety) or Risperdal (antipsychotic). Anyone tried these? I'm open since 's stimming and anxiety in new situations is really interfereing with his life, and he will soon start a new school in first grade, but he is not a bit hyperactive; he'd sit all day if I let him. He also fatigues easily still from the chemo he had. I'm asking his oncologist about this today, but would love any parental stories! Thanks. 2. Did your kids have testing to diagnose autism, and what kind? was diagnosed from my observations and the developmental peds' clinical observation. The MD had no doubt. He said we could do expensive neuropsych testing, but it would give the same result. And they tried to do cognitive testing in the office but wasn't really able to do it. Hope this makes sense, and sorry to ask so much in my intro. Beth, mom to , age
