Guest guest
Dear all, I wish to share with the MGIMS family that I am leaving India for San Francisco on 12 th August, early morning. I am going to the School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley, USA to do Masters in Public Health (MPH: Epidemiology). The US Federal Government under its Fogarty AIDS International Training Program has given me a scholarship that would cover my stipend and tuition. I will come back in June 2005 after taking final MPH exam. Among other things, I would learn biostatistics, clinical epidemiology, and the art and science of evidence based medicine. I would also fill gaps in my knowledge in the critical appraisal of medical literature. I also plan to hone skills in designing medical research, doing diagnostic studies and clinical trials and evaluating published research. I hope that my training would help me become a better clinician, teacher and researcher. I would like to thank several alumni who have helped me a lot in the last six months. Filing applications, getting past the beauraucratic hurdles and red tapes, and acquiring the US visa is indeed a daunting task. I was fortunate to get constant support and encouragement from my MGIMS friends, and could always fall back on them whenever I needed their help. Staying away from a family for almost a year makes me nervous and tense. I do hope that Berkeley provides me an environment that is emotionally satisfying and intellectually challenging. Having wished that, let me admit that while San Francisco can have my head, my heart would always be in Sevagram:24/7. Please note my new e-mail ID: kalantri@... sp_kalantri@...
