Guest guest
Just wanted to give a quick update on our request for a 1-1 fluent signing assistant for Trisha. We had our FAPT meeting today it was agreed that Trisha needs and would benefit from a fluent sign language 1-1 throughout her school day. Now that we have the approval the next step is to find someone who is qualified to work with her. We are not looking at this time for a sign interpreter but we are looking for someone who is very fluent and who will converse with her instead of just signing 1 word commands. The report was very specific that it had to be more than just signing one word commands and that it had to be consistent and throughout her school day. I just hope it doesn't take as long to find someone as it did for us to get this approval because we have been fighting for this for years now. The report was awesome and Miss Trisha shined and amazed many of the sign ability she has already with just the limited signs we've been using at home, the occasional signs they use at school and her Signing Time DVD's. The evaluator commented in the report how impressed she was at Trisha's signing capabilities considering that the school was not consistent with signing with her and that sign meant something to her otherwise she probably would not have retained and use the signs she knows with what little sign was being used with her at school. That's one more step forward in our ever continuing saga but it's a good step. :-) Carol Trishasmom She isn't typical, She's Trisha! ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
