I really need some help here.

As you know, has been fighting bronchopneumonia since last Monday, and

it is now his 10th day on Augmentin. Although he does not *look* too bad, his

chest is not clearing, in fact I would have to say it is getting worse. Tonight

, his left lung is 'bubbling', and rales both sides. There is no crackling or

popping that I can hear. His cough, in sleep, is very wet. He has no temp, at

least does not feel hot to touch and throughout this whole bout his temperature

has not risen to a dramatic level.

He has had , (this is a conservative guess, I'm too tired to check for sure), 10

pneumonias, at least half of them lobar. The rest broncho. Sometimes he

develops high temps, others not.

They have always responded within this time frame to abs, normally within 2-4

days.

Now, here's my query. He is on Indomethacin so this might be dampening any temp

he has. And then again, he doesnt seem to develop temps to bacterial, mostly

viral. So that could be the reason the Augmentin is not working, but then

again, wouldnt bacterial be suspected to have set in by now, even if it started

as viral? Esp with the bubbling?

Also, the amitriptyline he is on for the CPH acts as a huge stimulant on him, so

this could be why he hasnt dropped at this point.....

I dont really know what I'm asking you all here. I've been through so many

pneumonias with my 2 you'd think I'd know the answers to my own questions, but

this time round Im clueless to work out what is going on- or just too close to

the situation to see clearly what might be obvious?

Monday the GP spoke of bronchioectasis (sp), I'm just so confounded that

s chest sounds like it does at day 10. If he was looking drastic I'd be

in familiar territory, but this time I'm really unsure what is going on.
