this is a gardening site in Ohio that I have followed for years but weren't in a

place to do that.  He propagates plants and then sells the starts to make

money.  He gets seeds and takes cuttings so that owuld save money too.  I am

including so any of you can check it out.  Some of the timing and plants are

off for me in FL.  Since he is in Ohio it might be off for you too.   I like

to check in on his site several tims a year.  His last information was that

mulch close to he house has set some houses on fire.  So that is interesting to

read about and think about.

Hope you find something of interest in his website.  he has changed it somewhat

lately.

Subject: gardening to save money??

Carolyn,

I've been gardening for years. Every year I have to add a few bags of

new soil to what's already there because it breaks down. (I make my own

compost and have to add that, too). So far, I haven't even come close

to breaking even, much less saving money by gardening rather than buying

in the stores. That's even in a good gardening season. I've never done

it to save money because that simply doesn't happen unless you happen to

have incredibly great soil where you live that doesn't need amendments

every year.

Sprouts are a different matter though. But with the cost of seed and

shipping going up so much, even that is less of a cost savings than it

used to be.

" By growing some of your own veggies and sprouting will put healthier

food in your diet as well as saving money (at least once you have things

going and don't have to buy start up things). "
