I mean like in anything she may want to say to anyone. We are trying to

expand her speech with more than just I want.... or I like.... I'm just trying

to remember what most people say during the course of a day so I can add more

phrases to her communication board. Things like is dinner done or where is

or how come, you know typical kid phrases. It's been so long I can't really

remember all of them. :-)

Let's see....

For my 15 year old:

I hate you!

Leave me alone!

I'm starving, we don't have any food! (looking into full refrigerator!)

I hate school!

He's going through a period...does it show?

LOL,

Thanks Irma,

I knew I could count on you. :-) It sounds easy to crank out some phrases

until you start making a board and realize how limiting the words are.

We've been using the generic and basic phrases I want, I need for years and

that

is something I am trying to expand on. I have argued for years with the

school that she needs to be able to express more than just her basic wants and

needs which is why I want to put phrases and short words on her boards so that

she can express pretty much whatever she wants. We will start out with

mostly phrases and short words until she gets the hang of the laptop as her

communication device and then will expand on to more words and simple messages

as

we go.

Heading out in a few minutes out to Austin with Master for his

Chelation Treatment. So far no fever, knock on wood, all his GI

results (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy/upper endoscopy & Colonscopy),

biospy revealed Benign/no malignancy seen, awesome news received.

He just loves traveling with me. Yesterday when we had arrived he

would not budge out of the van. Now I know the areas I am going to

have to work with him like you are with Trisha in regards in teaching

him to request which I would of understood with a simple phrase

like " I want to eat " , maybe with the PECS or the communication

device with the pic of a restaurant. One of my oldest son(Roland)

arrived home, noticed sitting in the van, he ended up dropping

my grandson Noah for his nap with me after one of their outing. Then

he asked for my keys and took out for a ride around the block

returning with french fries and some nuggets from and sure

enough this did the trick. walked in right after Roland and

gave me a great big hug, probably his way of apologizing for giving

me a hard time, but I did not use any force. Just did not read

between the lines.

I am currently working on Phase II, due to the school unable to find

his learning style, he has master Phase I & III. Phase II is one of

the most important skills that he needs as a goal to master in

's case. Since he has not been attending school practically

last month and this one I have been able to work around the areas

needed, this until I end up going back for some retraining with ABA

as I have been to busy focusing on the Bio-med route route due to his

underlying medical issues going on.

I could see expanding the communication around these times of the

function of the behavior of the day. It would really cut down alot

of " anger management " . ; )

If I can remember other words I'll get back on them.

It is wonderful how much you have been making/Trisha understand

around on what is needed/generalizing. School must be following the

basics for now on obtaining function replacement skills.

Request help.

Make a choice.

Request attention.

How they feel/emotions.

Ask for a hug/hand shake or " don't touch me " .

Ask for a turn.

Ask for item.

Learn to wait with visual cue.

Request attention

Instead some of our kids will probably pick up and become teachers

themselves of what they have learn.

" What do you want? "

" Do this " .

I know you will figure out how to add these expansion of words and

incorporating across the day for Trisha, so proud of her. Yes, you

too of course.

Have fun in the mean time. I'll see what I have and send it your way

before I head out next week to Chicago.
