Guest guest
I hope this is not too off topic, but I have found the book Potatoes, Not Prozac to be a tremendous help in turning my diet away from sugar and towards foods that support my health. If you feel comfortable, you might suggest the mom read it. It explains what is going on in brain chemistry that draws a person back to sugar and how to get on the right course with food. I'm not an expert on this and I'm sure will have a whole lot to add. , LLLL, IBCLC (no connection with this book!) Calling on Lactation Detectives Again I am still scratching my head on this one. Do I tell her that she has to wait a few more weeks before her body adjusts and this too shall pass? I have a mom I am still working with, you may remember from a couple of weeks ago baby had TT. The good news is that the baby had an anterior release done. The doctor said he was able to snip about 1/2 cm. The clicking sound was reduced a bit and the baby stopped choking so much, though not completely. The problem of the OS and OMER still exist. She has done a couple full drain and block feedings at 6/8/10 and 12 hour blocks. Even at 10 and 12 hour blocks the rested breast still becomes engorged and sprays as does the breast that the baby is nursing from. The baby also returns the feedings in great volumes. She has been using peppermints, laid back nursing, hand expressing and allowing the forceful flow to escape before latching the baby back on after the first let down. I have included as much of the other information again so you all could have as many of the pieces of this puzzle as I do. Mom, breastfeeding related -painful letdown -oversupply (10-12+ hour block feeding) -engorged on other side between feedings -massive leaking (3-4 large washcloths soaked per night) -when newly pregnant last summer, milk supply dropped drastically (16mos PP) she suspects this is hormonal and nursing toddler was not happy and complained there was no milk. Mom, general -chronic pain condition (vulvodynia/vestibulitis, diagnosed 2001) -undiagnosed urinary pain, probably related to vulvodynia -needs to eat every few hours or else becomes faint -has a sweet tooth (also a way of keeping blood sugar level up, or so she tells herself (her words)) -blood pressure tends to be low (105/55 to 115/65) -depression, taking 100mg Zoloft Baby -clicks when nursing -tongue-tie clipped -chokes/sputters during letdown, even while laid-back nursing -stools explosive/foamy, every other day ( I know this is inconsistent with over supply ) -gas smells of sulfur She also had a full workup on hormonal imbalances and said the doctor didn't find anything out of normal ranges. I have recently suggested using cabbage leaves and sage tea, haven't gotten an update in a couple of days but she had tried the cabbage before, in the beginning. Mom also looked on Mom and tried a lot of what she found there as well. Help if there is something else you could suggest. you had mentioned leaky gut/mom. She has also since started taking a probiotic. Anything else?
