Guest guest
I am being told buy a clinical pharmacists that Spiriva is NOT indicated for asthma and that it could cause an asthma attack. Has anyone else heard this or know where I could find this information in writing to present to my department? I know what Spiriva.com says as well as Webmd.com and Pfizer.com I am looking for the information to back up the clinical pharmacists on her position. She too is looking for the write up on Spiriva causing asthma attacks. Has anyone seen anything about that other then the Pfizer?
Guest guest
HI MATT: I work for a doctor and the Spiriva rep came in and told me that it is not indicated for asthma it is only indicated for COPD. I take Atrovent which is the same ingredient in spiriva and I have Asthma not COPD. I will look into it for you. Guest guest
Hi Matt, I am also on a COPD list and lots of people have started to use Spiriva on that list. Most of those people have a COPD and asthma factor. It' s not a fast acting bronchodilator, people take it with their other meds like Advair, Serevent and Pulmicort, etc. Although people report confusion about what their Doctors tell them ( One got really in trouble after her Doc told her to stop the advair, when she started taking Spiriva), the people who are taking it, report good results, once the spiriva has taken effect. To sum it up, I think it's very important to know what medication the patients are already on and sort out the meds spiriva could be counter indicated with or duplicated. For people with chronic breathing problems it seem like a good med to add. Since you are very knowledgeable about resp. meds, I would ask a pharmacist to give you the insert and study it closely. Since I have asthma, COPD, beg. emphysema, I want to try it, just can't afford it right now. C-M
Guest guest
Hi Matt, again... It's the Atrovent people are to stop when taking Spiriva , seems they have similar ingredients but Spiriva works better. C-M
