Guest guest
"But then the US is a country that doesn't care how many blooddiamonds it imports, how much oil it takes and burns, how muchCO2 it shoves into the atmosphere, nor how many must suffer anddie to feed that voracious maw of corporate greed."So, why do you single out the US? I'm not praising US CO2 policy, but to be fair, Canada is just announcing it will not meet its' Kyoto goals, and Europe won't, either.China and India were basically excluded from the treaty, which is why the US declined to participate. We are very quick to blame our own nation for world-wide problems. When we criticize the automobile industry, we scream "Detroit." All the while, Europeans build more and more 12 cylinder cars for export, and even "tree-hugging" Toyota ramps up production of far more huge Tundra pickups that the 50,000 or so Prius loss-leaders than they will ever make. The documentary "who killed the electric car" focused on GM entirely, neglecting to note that Toyota's electric car program was even less successful, and the plug was pulled faster.Same holds for the drug issue. It's very easy to single out drug pricing as the issue, but the profit hungry companies have made medications that keep us alive. I do not want the golden goose killed, though when it acts in bad faith or dishonestly, it's need regulation. It makes people feel all good inside to say this isn't a moral way to make medications, but I don't ask that of corporations. I ask of governments to regulate markets, and use tax monies to pay for things. It is the fault of every single one of us, not just drug company stockholders (for the record, I am not one) that our government is not held accountable for issues of environmental policies, corporate responsibility, and world health, and if you really think Europe is doing a better job, just look at Darfur.
