Guest guest
I teach breastfeeding and newborn care. I, too, show Starting out safe and sound; must admit it isn't my favorite and also that I don't have an alternative suggestion. I like that it shows a birth, not all the IVs, rather rough handling of the baby, etc. OTOH, it's probably fairly realistic for what to expect at their hospital birth. Like the moms' expressions, like the early feeding. Gotta love those hairstyles! lol I also use the Better Breastfeeding video. I like a lot about it, don't absolutely love it. It's kind of traditional asymmetrical latch kind of stuff. Generally good, just doesn't emphasize the your baby can do this, you have milk, do lots of skin to skin, etc. that I like. I also use the Tina Smiley dvd, which I also like but which is a little harder for some moms to get their heads around. I should probably that I teach these through a local health care organization so curriculum was developed by a group, not by me. Classes are 2.5h.
