Guest guest
http://buddybike.com/ This is their website. Here is a kind of "cheezy" video on You Tube, but it lets you see it in action.Don't be confused (like I was) if you see ads for "the love bike" that looks the same but is cheaper. "the love bike" no longer exists. It was the original name that the inventor used for the first few years, but when he sold the rights to it, the new owners called it "the buddy bike". If your family qualifies for "family support dollars" or other money from DDD, I was able to get this covered and paid for through the $3000 gets each year. It qualified as "therapeutic equipment" after a letter from her doctor and Physical Therapist, saying she was unlikely to learn to ride a bike independently in the next few years and that the bike would benefit both her health (strength, endurance etc) as well as community participation (part of what the funds are for).Good luck, and write anytime if you have questions!Caseyp.s. Yes, is pretty small - but so is her twin who doesn't have DS. He is 4'8 1/2 and only 64 pounds! bike riding Luke is now 8 and unable to ride a bike by himself, but he loves to go for rides and currently we put him in the pull-behind trailer, which he is quickly outgrowing. Any suggestions? I have seen these Buddy Bikes where the child sits in front of you and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with these? They seem rather pricey but we would consider one if it's worth it. I'm not sure at this point he would adequately hold onto one of those bike-looking things (don't know the name) that attach to the back of the parent's bike. I'm figuring somebody here has a practical suggestion! Thanks a lot!--mom to Luke (Ds) and Jake, age
