Hi Cyndi - I'm in the D/FW Metroplex. I belong to both the Dallas Down Syndrome

Guild (www.downsyndromedallas.org) and the Down Syndrome Partnership Tarrant

County group (www.DSPTC.org). Both organization have lots of great links to

resources in the area.

Children's Hospital in Dallas has a Down syndrome Clinic every Friday. They are

a tremendous resource for getting referrals to specialists, clinics, etc. Cook

Children's Hospital in Fort Worth has a DS clinic once a month. I've never

taken the boys there so I can't tell you much about what services they provide.

Do you know where in the area you will be moving to?

Unfortunately here in TX there are years long waiting lists for Medicaid Waiver

Programs. There's a " work-around " for the Medically Dependant Children " (MDCP)

list that shortens the wait. If you determine you kids qualify for that (while

waiting on the other lists), email me privately and I'll explain it to you.

The minute you get here, call and get the kids placed on the first three waiting

lists: HCS (Home and Community Services), CLASS (Community Living Assistance

and Support) and MDCP. I will warn you up front that when you call to be put on

the CLASS list they will tell you right off the batt that MR does not qualify

for class services. This is true, however the diagnosis of Down Syndrome does

qualify them for CLASS services. Just state that back to them and demand the

kids be put on the list. You'll have to call all three numbers/agencies to get

them on these lists.

If you want to email me privately for more info, I'd be happy to help.

Judi, Mom to Sam & , identical twins, 14.

now and have nursing at home for the kids, Regional Center and Medi-cal. Not

sure what is available in TX. Anyone with info please let me know.

Cyndi: Small world, I work for the Feds too. I'll have 30 years service (OMG

that's a long time!) this coming April. Right now I'm a Contracting Officer

with GSA (General Services Administration). I have some friends at work who

left Lockheed to come work for GSA.

I don't know if she's still a member of this group, but a friend of mine (who

also has Identical twins boys w/DS) used to live in Trophy Club. I'm going to

forward your email to her. She can give you some insights on schools in Trophy

club.
