Guest guest
Welcome helen, and from me as well. I am Anja mom to 3 kids, a 5 year old girl Celine and twin boys Fabien and Marcel. My boys have Down Syndrome and just turned 2 in March. I have a question: In previous posts I often mentioned how different Fabien & Marcel are developing. Now at 24 month Fabien is walking unassisted and getter better every day. He started to understand simple commands like getting a ball or bringing something to me. He is signing his needs (althought not always using the correct sign) and he is starting to verbalize simple words like ball, bubbles, bye bye. Marcel on the other hand is still crawling, he will not stand independently. We are working hard on it with the PT but he is very insecure and does not try things out by himself. He does not sign or understand commands yet. Now here is the concern - they are both attending daycare and are in the same beginners class (with the 15-20 month year olds). The daycare says they want to move Fabien up to the young toddler class because he is doing so well. I am not sure how I feel about seperating them. They took him to the other classroom for a few hours each day and Marcel was crawling around looking for him and clearly was upset. I am also concerned because all the regular children in the young toddler class are speaking and can express themselves and eat independently. With Fabien still behind is some of this areas I worry that he won't get the extra attention that he needs. In Georgia the caretaker racio for a privat daycare is 1 teacher to 15 children in that class. I know there are a few others in this group with twins. Maybe with similar experiences in the past and some advise? Cheers, Anja
