Guest guest
Hi , Luke has always had sleeping issues, and after trying unsuccessfully with just melatonin at night (it would get him to sleep but not keep him asleep), we were able to get a sleep study done. The results of that were that he has an excessively difficult time getting/staying asleep (well no kidding--didn't need a sleep study to tell us that one!). But it did give our doc the basis to prescribe Clonidine (.6 ml-which is a very small dose) along with 1ml of Melatonin at bedtime. Usually this works pretty well for him and if he wakes up he generally goes back to sleep. I also give him a vitamin in the morning, which I think helps keep his energy levels up thru the day and he's more tired at night. We battled for several years with him getting up at 3am and staying up the rest of the night/day, which definitely took it's toll on the rest of our family. Now we are finally getting some decent sleep at night! Good luck with that--I can sympathize --mom to Luke (DS) and Jake, age 8 > > Hello!  My twin grils will be 4 in September.  > > It has been an amazing transformation for Molly this past year. Her speech and quadrupled and  her signing is amazing >  > I really fought preschool but for those parents of young kids with DS, do not underestimate like I did! She is such a young lady now with the ability to fully communicate with you, follow directions, and do many self help skills independently. > > She is still not potty trained. She really has no interest. She will get me all excited by saying " poop " or " potty " AFTER she goes and then doesn't. Ummmm.... Not sure what to do about that. > > Molly and her twin sister have made amazing strides as sisters. Maggie (my typical twin) is very protective of Molly. So sweet. > > One question for the group: What do you do about your child that doesn't sleep? Molly just moved to her big girl bed for her own safety and she wonders around the room for hours at night and disrupts her sister. I do give her melatonin and I am either under dosing her or it just doesn't work for her. > > Have a fantastic summer everyone!!Wife to a fabulous man, Mike, > Blessed with four amazing kids: Austin (15), Gavin (6), Maggie and Molly (3)-Molly with DS > Family Blog: http://thevelander4.blogspot.com/
