Hi Everybody, We are fast approaching this year's End the R-Word Day and I would like to call upon each one of you to help make it one of the most powerful events in disability advocacy history. This community began three years ago with myself and a few close friends; it has since grown to over 33,000 passionate advocates from around the world determined to create a future of acceptance, respect and dignity for people with intellectual disabilities. On March 3, a week from Wednesday, we have the opportunity to speak with one voice and engage the world on this important issue. Here are 5 easy ways that you can give your voice to this cause without even leaving your computer: 1. Donate your profile picture: Visit http://media.specialolympics.org/soi/files/spread-the-word/STW-logo-with-date-%202010.jpg and use the logo their as your default picture for the

next 9 days. Encourage your friends to do the same. 2. Donate your status: Use your Facebook status to share videos and information about End the R-Word Day. My personal favorite right now is this video of ny Knoxville and Eddy Barbanell, stars of The Ringer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfMlrTV_5vY. Use your status to share this and others with your friends. 3. Join the Facebook Event: It's not a commitment to be anywhere but rather a sign of support. If you support the cause and End the R-Word Day, join the event! You can find it here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=272944012085. We currently have over 12,000 confirmed guests, let's get to 20,000 and beyond! Invite all of your friends! 4. Take the pledge: If you haven't yet, visit www.r-word.org and take your pledge to end your use of the R-word. We currently have nearly 70,000 pledges; our goal is to get over 100,000 by the end of our event on March 3. If you've

already taken the pledge, invite your friends to do so too! 5. Get the shirt (or button or wristband): Visit www.r-wordstore.com and help raise awareness in your community with the 3.3.10 Spread the Word to End the Word apparel and accessories. Of course, you can do a lot away from your computer as well. If you can, host an event at your school or in your community. Collect pledges from your peers or colleagues to end the use of the R-word or direct them to r-word.org. If you are interested in hosting an event, visit http://www.specialolympics.org/spread-the-word-to-end-the-word_resources.aspx for a variety of resources and register your event at r-word.org. Remember to share your successes! We represent over 33,000 people and have access to social networks of tens of thousands more. Let's use those resources to make this day a historic one in disability advocacy. Those who suffer at the hands of this discrimination deserve

nothing less. All the best, Soeren
