Charlotte, there are several families on this listserve who have

children with DS and autistic behaviors.

It makes me want to scream that your son can't be evaluated for a year.

The earlier you begin therapy for autism the better. And the

professionals in New Zealand must know that.

Al Veerhoff, Kensington, land

father to Will & , identicals with DS and now 19.

checking in

Winter is setting in in New Zealand. Kids are all playing soccar and

feeling excited about the Football World Cup, which is starting soon.

is managing his bugs well. Nothing too sinister yet, which will

hopefully continue. We are finding that his germ resistance seems to be

improving as he ages (he is 4 years old now). Thankfully.

has been referred to the local diagnostic services as the powers

that be feels he may present with behaviours on the Autistic Spectrum.

Mixed emotions about it all. Wonder if it rings bells for anyone else?

Unfortunately, he probably won't be seen for at least a year, as the

service is over-subscribed.
