Guest guest
Hi, as to alternatives to try, inositol powder is a good choice to try. Also some parents have reported that some products by Native Remedies (they have a website) have helped; I think one was MindSoothe...can't recall the other product name now, there were 2, but searching our archived posts for " Native Remedies " should turn up some results. Well, with 2 strikes against SSRI's I can see why you're hesitant to try another. But want to say that sometimes there is one SSRI that will work perfectly while the others don't and cause unwanted side effects, including behavioral. I agree with you, I would think it was the Zoloft causing his fighting. Well, got to go but do let us know how you & son are doing and if you try any products. This is a good group to just vent to on those bad, tiresome days. And just any day! What OCD type behaviors does your son have? That's sad that the CBT and other stuff hasn't helped him any, and sounds like you tried some good places for help too! > > I feel that my son cannot take SSRI's for his OCD. He is 16yrs old and when on Zoloft ended up in 3 fights??? NO fighting before or after Zoloft. The Dr. says its not the Zoloft because he was only on a starting dose of 25. I tend to disagree and took him off the drug. His behavior was scary. I myself have tried SSRI's while taking care

Guest guest
I get so frustrated with doctors when they don't believe people's reactions to meds. I'm one that is really sensitive to meds and has, sometimes, bizarre reactions to them, so always take meds cautiously. I had the same reaction to Paxil. I have a heart condition, so it exacerbated it. An hour after I would take it, my heart would speed up and I would get arrhythmia. I have that anyway, so didn't need something adding to it. I hope the Inositol works for you. If not, you might consider trying a different SSRI. I don't blame you for not wanting to, but just wanted to share that my brother-in-law had a similar reaction with Lexapro (major anger), after being put on it while recovering from a surgery to have a brain tumor removed. They switched him to a different SSRI and it worked for him, without that reaction. A couple of things about Inositol that our son experienced when we tried it. It can make them gassy and cause diarrhea. I think the idea is to go slow with it if they experience that. Have you tried CBT/ERP (cognitive behavioral therapy / exposure and response prevention) therapy? It is supposed to be more effective than medication even. It helped our son tremendously. It's hard when they are teenagers, so you have teen stuff to deal with too, on top of OCD. Our son is 17, so know how that can be. I hope something works for you soon. I myself have tried SSRI's while taking care of my mom with Alzheimers. I took half of the prescribed dose of Paxel and the result was hospitalization because it caused my heart to race and I passed out. Anyway, Maybe it just me and because of my experience with these meds but they scare me alot because it seems my family is very sensitive to them. I know many people have had wonderful results with these meds and I wish that was the same for us. So hear is my question. Has anyone had good results with natural meds. Mostly Inosital. I have also read about 5-HTP and Sam-E. My son also has ADD along with OCD and was diagnosed with depression. We have spent thousands of dollars to get help for him (including CBT at the University of PA. and Neuo Psy. Testing) and nothing has happened to help him. Everyone has a different opinion and I am totally confused. I had to put him in a private school because he was failing and they say he is a difficult case?????? I am stressed as you can see and will stop here. Anyone have ideas for alternatives? Any results with acupuncture? THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
