Guest guest
Walmart or some similar store has a yellow vibrating star in the baby chew toy area. When you chew on it, it starts to vibrate. Birgitta would bite down, looked shocked, hold the star out to see and then bite down again. She would repeat the cycle several times before finally just hugging the star so it would vibrate on her chest. Guest guest
Thanks wow Im getting alot of info to send to Mics speech therapist. She is using oral motor therapy which is making Mic miserable and she using it aggressively which I think he needs time will tell. Now his teacher tells me hes licking everything well he does this home too. He was getting oral motor therapy just not aggressively this new sp teacher is trying really hard to get in his mouth. Its causing alot of behavior changes in him but he will do fine once he gets used to it.I have so much info for her she seems to know alot about oral motor just not the behaviors of ds/asd.Thank you if they start getting in his mouth I can start again I havent been able to do it for 2 yrs now.His sp th from EI was big on oral motor and she had him eating and had me using it on a daily routine he just does less for me then he does for them. His behavior is bad he keeps slapping me in the mouth for the last week well thats about when he changed sp therapists and she started the oral motor program for him.Its like hes telling me " get them out of my mouth " by slapping me in the mouth I think thats what hes trying to say. maybe not but all this started when the new sp teacher started. They are gonna let him chew on his sock intermittently through the day for stim he dangles chews dangles chews and it helps him pull himself together.I dont let him have his sock all day he gets it when he starts stimming and then I give it to him while he watching tv.I dont care if hes chewing a sock its what he prefers for now. Thanks so much. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I think you know Mic so well. The new sp therapist should have introduced her program gradually. Not only does Mic have to ease into having a new person but a entirely new program is too much too fast. Follow your gut. Don't ever underestimate what you know best with Mic. Guest guest
Laurie, Mic has at so many time reminded me of Jake, except Jake never had any eating issues. The licking spitting, not letting anyone in his mouth...all that. Now, he is much better but I think it was because of a gradual program they did at speech therapy at Loyola. Gentle message, suckers, chewy things, and great rewards. I also chose times to give Jake his socks because that is what calmed him. Eventually, he left his shoes on and the sock thing went by the way side. Every now and then he still takes his shoes off in the car and throws them to the back of the Durango. Also the socks. Ticks me off, but it is now not constantly. I always let him play with a sock when we were in the car since he like to stim while we were riding around. He loves the car and it always seems to center him. Maybe that is why he loves the Jeeps so much! Anyway, I agree, you know Mic best and you are getting so much better at pin pointing his behaviors. He has had a really good year and grown up so much. I remember some of your first posts. I was so worried about you and him. And look at you now! Guest guest
nathan use to love to chew one thoe he had a green and purple one and a yellow and blue one, those and remember those tumble balls that bounce all over, he would put one of those prongs in his mouth, uggh, thankfully for school he also loved the chewy tubes which we looped on a string that he wore like a necklace and he just put in his mouth wehn felt the need, which was often back then. shawna Re: sensory catalogs Walmart or some similar store has a yellow vibrating star in the baby chew toy area.
