Guest guest
I agree with Margaret. Tori was placed in regular ed with support since pre-school and is just being moved to a life skills classroom next week (she is in 1st grade) to see if it helps her with her behaviors. You don't start a child off at it's lowest level. Reach for the stars, and see where they land. Liz Amber Hi, Everyone....Amber.....why the life skills class? Your daughter DESERVES a chance in a regular classroom with regular peers to have as role models........especially if she is sociable. IF.......and that is AFTER all options have been tried and failed.....then, you should consider Resource rooms or autistic support classes. Life skill classrooms are for learning life skills....surely you can teach your daughter how to empty the trash, make her bed, help with dishes, etc. They are basically saying your daughter doesn't deserve to learn to read and write. Nothing pisses me off more than a child not being given a chance to succeed because of their 'labels'....especially at such a young age. Sorry for the rant........you got the memories flowing!!! Take care, Everyone. Margaret ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Guest guest
<<Outside of those 2 types of classes I wouldn't know what else would suit her needs.**AMBER>> Hi, Everyone...Amber....Does she need to be in a full time support class because she is left alone or does she need a full time 1-1 to make it work in a regular class? Our kids are like sieves at that age and she could learn so much from her normal peers........and, I am not talking just academics. You said she was social.....she should be with normal kids to learn the social skills, interaction, play time, and pick up correct speech if possible. You know your daughter best. How are her academics now....does she show signs of knowing the difference in colors, does she try to count, does she indicate that she has some knowledge of want reading is about, or does she like being read to? Whatever you decide, just don't let them place her in a particular class because of her labels.....that is illegal. Believe me, I have heard all the lines from the IU and the school districts..... " that's where our mentally retarded kids go " " he can't go into the resource classes because those are for 'normal' kids " " he's Down Syndrome and should be with other DS kids " " he has behavioral issues and we can't let him hit the 'normal' kids. " That one always got to me....it's OK for MR kids to smack each other but not OK for an MR kid to hit a normal kid.....normal kids can hit each other but a MR kid can't hit a normal kid?!?!? Take care, Everyone. Margaret ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Guest guest
Yup - I used ACCESS as well - I needed longer but more narrow diapers than Goodnite - so I used the generic brand!! I also got DIAPERS not pullups for nights because we needed more thickness aat night. So I used a diaper and put a pullup over it and a washable pad (got those on line) under my kid. The paper pads which I could get thur access were too small and much too thin - they got wadded up aat night. I had 30 diapers a month and the pullups. Guest guest
They sent us samples and I think we will be happy with the ones we chose for the time being. They don't have the cute lil winnie the pooh or whatever on them, but I guess we will live. :-) Thanks for the info though. **Amber > > > > > > Wow, do you think I can get our medical insurance to pay for > >diapers? Guest guest
Luckily I will not need anything thicker for night time...atleast not right now. I could put Hannah to bed diaperless and she wouldn't pee. She wets her diaper after she leaves the house in the morning. > > >> > > > >> > Wow, do you think I can get our medical insurance to pay for > > >>diapers?
