Guest guest
If they like noodles try whole wheat noodles and pasta. Pizza--whole wheat crust. Or just put some Benefiber in one of their drinks every day. All natural and you never know its there. As for the veggies---will they eat cheese sauce? MISSYSAHM to some special kids!!! All kid's are gifted; some just open their packagesearlier than others.-- Carr Recipes for fussy eaters...... Recipes for fussy eaters...... I have a 10 year old ADHD son and an 8 year old Aspergers son. They are both very fussy eaters, especially my 8 year old due to his sensory issues (smells, tastes, temperature, etc.). Anyone have a source for new and exciting recipes for kids that would be simple and well tolerated by kids with sensory issues? All they want is PB & J, loose hamburger, buttered noodles, scrambled eggs, and pizza. They need more fiber and vegetables. Thanks for the help! Guest guest
I am dealing with the same things with my almost 8 year old son. We have only added two new things in the past two years to his diet. only eats cereal (cheerios), lipton packet noodles (chicken/broccoli), peanut butter on crackers only, any kind of junk food that is chocolate, no fruits (once in a blue moon applesauce), no veggies (except the broccoli in the noodles) and no meats. He'll eat pancakes and waffles, but has to be in the mood for them. He won't eat ice cream and occassionally he'll eat a popsicle. He eats cheese puffs and spaghetti O's, but will not eat the meatball ones. He'll eat chicken broth where when he was a toddler would eat the noodles too, but now he won't. Guest guest
Hi all, One person I know has discovered that it takes a while for her son to get used to seeing a new food (the ASD thing of not liking change). She puts a very small amount of a new food on his plate - being careful that it doesn't touch anything else, lots of our kids have troubles with this - and does this every day for a week or two. Eventually he gets used to seeing it there and it is no longer 'new' and he will eat it! Of course it is important not to make any fuss or even mention anything about it whilst the process is going on. in England
Guest guest
Another thing my kids would eat was Chicken and Broccoli at the Chinese restaurant. This is one of 's and 's favorite meals. is ADHD/Aspergers is ADHD with Asperger Tendencies. When they first started trying it they did not want to eat "trees" but now since they had to help clean the forest they eat with gusto. I was also able to get them to like tuna sandwiches. I initially had small cookie cutters in the shapes of hearts, circles, triangles, squares, diamonds etc... (the size of about 4 small bite sized sandwiches per full sandwich) I would not give them to them and told them you wont like them. After 4 times of me having my shape sandwiches I told them ok I would let them try just one. I even told them that I wanted the rest after they had the one and they begged me for more ). After 2 weeks of the multi shapes I asked them if they wanted 1 big square, 2 rectangles or 4 small squares (regular sandwich size). Eventually they began eating the regular sandwiches. It all took 6 weeks to do. Now they love tuna sandwiches. The key is make it fun. If they feel like they are missing out on something they will want to do and try what you have. We do have the one bite rule in our house instead of the 3 bite rule. They have to at least try one good bite. If they don't want it after then they don't have to finish it. I have also managed to get them to like Fried Chicken Liver. On the tuna I only had hard boiled eggs chopped up small, canned tuna in oil that I drained and rinsed with hot water (the oil has a richer flavor) and Miracle Whip. Anything other than that and they wont touch it. The Liver I roll in flour and deep fry in vegetable oil for 5 to 10 minutes, salt lightly and pepper generously for a better taste. Hope this helps. Sorry for the rambling. Just had some more ideas to share. Have a good week. Dawn.....Mom of 4 dstar39@... Why Wait? Move to EarthLink.
