Guest guest
hi there ...my 12 yr old son has severe adhd...over the course of the past 6 yrs,we have tried all the stimulate drugs...he only had one of them that actually worked, however,he lost 6 1/2 pounds in one month from it....he was placed on 40 mg of stratera 2 months ago....you could not tell the difference between him takng the meds and him not taking the meds..the doc has now increased it to 60 mg now..i do some differences but he has only been on this new dosage since wensday...as far as the differences...the stratera does have less side affects....they usually tend to not loose there appitite,it doesn't cause my son to become as drowsy as the stimulates it..however, it is not quick actng like the stimulates, and does take a bit to get into the system.......hope this helps you....sonie
Guest guest
i didn't realize it could make you loose your appitie, that hasnt happened to my son....however,i do agree..if the stimulant is working..dont switch to stratera...i honestly feel like the stratera isnt working as well as some of the others my son has been on,however,he couldn't be aloud to continue to loose weight at 6 pounds a month....if yours is working ....dont change...sonie
Guest guest
is anyone child using this? is on dexedrine but I am wondering what the diff is between a non-stimulant and a stimulant? Does it stay in the system or out like stimulants after 4 hrs? does it work immediately? Are there less side effects? Can someone please educate me on the difference? Even though the dexedrine works well it is short lasting for her, 3 1/2 hrs. I have tried all of the other longer lasting stim's and nothing works. Guest guest
Diane, Dexedrine comes in a long-acting spansule which peaks at 10 hours if you haven't tried that. Comes in 5, 10 and 15 mg. As for Strattera, this is a bit of deceptive marketing on the Part of Lilly. Under the Controlled Substances Act, it is not classified as a stimulant and thus is not a controlled class two drug. It is not an amphetamine, so Lilly was able to persuade the FDA not to classify it as a controlled substance. IOt ios not an amphetamine but it IS a stimulating drug, which is a deceptive use of the FDA language. FDA never said it is not stimulating. It clearly acts as a stimulant. It has some of the side-effects of the stimulants. but seeks to avoid the " bad name " associated with amphetamines commonly used to treat ADHD. Like the stimulants, side effects of Strattera included poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, weight loss and upset stomach. It works a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Norepinephine is an excitatory neurotransmitter. If Dexedrine is working for you, try the spansule and don't switch to Strattera. Just my opinion, FWIW. > > > is anyone child using this? is on dexedrine but I am wondering > what the diff is between a non-stimulant and a stimulant?
