Beth,

My deepest sympathy for you and your family. What a blessing that Nonni

held on until after Christmas. Prayers that the coming events bring peace to

your souls. Let us know how all of you are doing.

Dear Friends,

Ben's beloved Nonni died peacefully tonight. She was 92. She

was a loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. " Pete " was her

only grandchild and they loved each other. He hadn't been seeing her

as much in recent months as she became more frail, but he has loads

of photos of her and talks about her frequently. We will use

religious terminology that we think he will understand to tell him

about her death. We are not sure yet how much he will participate in

the next week's events, but thank goodness we have people whom we

trust who will be able to keep him busy and safe.

Nonni spent 10 months under hospice care at the nursing home where

she lived for the last 5 years. She lived with us for 3 years before

that. She had many close calls the last few months, but kept

rallying. In the end, she just slipped away on her own terms. But we

are glad she is finally at rest. I had worried for so long about all

the logistics of what her final days and hours would be like, and

here, she just slipped away, thank God!

Keep us in your prayers, please, as we negotiate the next several days.

Pete has been doing very well overall, thank goodness, and we have

had reliable help in place for him.

Hope you all have UNEVENTFUL New Years.

Blessings to all, and thank you for all the support you give me and

one another.

Love,

Beth Mum to Pete (aka Ben) age 16 central Ohio

So sorry to hear of your family's loss. You will be in my prayers as you deal

with the details and goodbyes. Pete will probably understand that God is hugging

Nonni as Nonni used to hug him. Kids understand hugs. I don't know what Pete's

developmental level is, but you will find the right way to explain it to him at

his level. God be with you.

Beth, I'm so sorry for your loss -- I will be praying for you and all

of your family and especially Ben -- I'm sure you will find the right

words to help him understand. I'm glad you have caring family and friends

around you to help.

When my husband died, the kids wrote notes on balloons and we sent them to

heaven. was only 2 at the time and will never understand, but my 7

year old at the time asked me " mommy, how will we know when our balloons get to

heaven " , and quickly I answered that she will probably get a warm tingly

feeling all over and you will just know. Well, she bought it, and later that

day

around dinner time she said to me " Mommy, my balloon just got there " . And

she had a big smile on her face.

I also made " daddy pillows " which were from his favorite T-shirts, and they

each hug them when they go to bed at night.

I hope that your happy, loving memories will help carry you all through this

time.

Hugs, Patty

Oh MB. No matter the age, it's painful to lose such a loving and giving

soul. Yet, I understand your peace in knowing how she died; we felt that

with Duff's Dad. It truly feels like a gift. Especially for us, when we

saw the pain and anguish my parents went through and at such an early age.

Celebrate Nonni's life at her services, and from now forward. I feel I've

known her, though we never physically met. And I feel blessed because of it.

Wow Patty. I had forgotten that you lost your husband. You tell a

similar story to one I know......last Easter, we let balloons go to the heavens

in

honor of Grandpop....and my little niece said that she could " see Grandpop

catching the balloons " . Death, love and life, seen through a child's

eyes, are anchors for us all.
