Guest guest
<<My second question is how many of you did they give an IQ score to. They told me that 's IQ was 24 and that put her in the severely mentally retarded (I hate that word) range. That was a shock to hear as I was not expecting that. They said that she would most likely be at a 2 year old level as an adult. Isn't it too soon for them to make that prediction?>> Hi, Everyone...I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving day....we sure did. .....First off, I hope you had a good cry over the official dx....it's heart breaking but she's still your little, ....the same child. Autism is now her primary dx....not the DS and it will need to be aggressively addressed socially and educationally. My son had an IQ test done at 5 and his score was 30.....he's reading, writing cursive, and knows basic math to the 3 rd grade level. Please........put those numbers in the back of your mind and don't bring them up again. It is impossible to 'unlock' an IQ from a 'normal' autistic child (much less one with DS, too!!!) until you can 'reach' them through communication, etc. Even then, it's practically impossible because of other issues. I don't remember where you live. but if the school has no class room teaching for , then a private school is another option for you to fight for. Gareth was also labeled severely MR....he's not. He wants to go to college and has a girl friend......don't give up on !!! ...Just an idea.....instead of going to no mail, switch over to 'digest' form and then very couple of days, you get a compact 'digest' form of the e-mailings. Take care, Everyone. Margaret
