I give Birgitta Cod Liver Oil which is high in DHA, EPA, and ALA (the omega

3 fatty acids).

I used to give her straight DHA in her formula. I would open up a capsule

into her bottle but the naturopath has suggested the Cod Liver oil recently.

We just started it a few weeks ago so we shall see. I have noticed that she

has been doing some more imitating of certain song motions (Itsy Bitsy

Spider and of course anything Wiggles)

She has so many issues we are working on so it is hard to say exactly what

is working in what area but as long as there is some improvement I am happy.

if it tastes

There is no hiding the oil part of it. I put it into her bottle mixed with

patmeal and Birgitta drinks it no problem. But then again she prefers odd

tasting foods to anything sweetened.

It may be easy enough to just take a teaspoon and drink some milk to off set

the oily feel. Then it is over quickly!!!!

alot of people in the apraxia group are using fish oil they say it helps

and I spent a great deal of money on them and couldnt get them down Mic hard to

hide. I wasted about 100 bucks. Mic doesnt really eat and he tastes anything I

try to get in him. If I could get them down him I would try it. Someday! Laurie

Fish Oil

Dear Group,

I was wondering if anyone has given fish oil to their children and seen any

positive changes in focus, behavior, and motor skills? The director at 's

school told me that her typical grandson experienced improvements in his fine

motor skills, speech, and behavior after only a few weeks (based on a .5

teaspoon dose once a day). A few anecdotal reports at school have also indicated

similar improvements in a few students, esp. with speech.

I have read that the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil are very good for

your brain, heart and immune system, so at the very least, it can't hurt, only

help. I decided to give a lemon-flavored fish oil

(Carlson's Fish Oil for Kids) about a month ago and what I have seen is an

improvement in his skin and focus. Perhaps it's just coincidental, but

interesting.

Best,

I would just like to say that I have been giving my son, , Fish

oil for about a year, I buy the Carlsons Brand with lemon taste, and

give him about one teaspoon a day in juice or kool aid. When I forget

to give it to him, or we run out, he GRINDS HIS TEETH TO NO END, I

also start to get bad reports from his teachers. I have learned over

time that this needs to be part of his daily intake.....it helps him

to focus more and keeps his behaviours in check, an added bonus is

that it also keeps his bowel movements regular.

You might need to start with a small dose and build up to one teaspoon

so that your childs system can get used to it...

Fish oil has been proven to help with attention and focus for children

and adults with ADD and ADHD as well.

Hi ,

The recommended dose for children 4 years and older is .5 teaspoon a day with

the Carlson's Fish Oil for Kids. I was told by a few moms and 's

pediatrician to start with a quarter teaspoon first for a few weeks, then

titrate up to the half teaspoon. Good luck. Best,

Hi, I don't normally post but always read the great advice on this

site. We give (who is 4 1/2) a 1/2 teaspoon of Nordic Naturals

Liquid Fish Oil. It's strawberry flavored. It can be purchased on

line at www.NuTriVene.com. It's available as a liquid or pill. It

costs $11.00. I actually buy mine at Whole Foods (They carry the

Nordic Natural Brand - which is also gluten free). We started on

this the first week of September. We don't know if this is the reason

we are seeing more words and a dramatic response in receptive language.

I also take the Gluten Free Fish Oil (I get it from Whole Foods).

Started it at the same time did - my husband commented on how

much calmer I was. Not sure if it is related but consider the calmer

reaction to things a great side effect.

Good Luck! Also Flax Seed Meal is loaded in the Omega 3 and Six.

It's not flavored (the oil. The meal can be purchased at the ACME,

it's Bob's Red Mill and is also Gluten Free. You can mix it with

yogurt or Cottage cheese.

Also - The Nutrivene web site pushes a vitamin program designed for

Trisomy 21 Children. I had on it when he was 2 (for about 6

months). We did not have a good experience. He had really really

really bad reflux. My friend does use it for her daughter and has had

no bad side effects.

Good Luck!

I was diagnosed with Adult ADD in April of this year... perhaps I should

start taking fish oil as well. But can I just take Omega3 instead? Or does

that work completely differently?
