Guest guest
We had years of OCB in public places. We took Elie when we had no choice and/or we wanted him to be with us. He did the " Dying roach " thing in malls, restaurants, stores, movies. He covered his head and wailed. He ran away. HE wandered off. He grabbed at people. This was while he was ON medication. Gradually, as his sensory needs were met sufficiantly (and I think this changes with age???) his behavior improved. Now he is 21. He is currently on no medication. Generally we can go anywhere without a problem. Occasionally, he balks. This past week (since Thansgiving) has been really rough. The barometer was all over the place (I don't know if it is a factor, but it could be an antecedent). HE has shutdown - almost as if he were comotose - no intereaction at all for hours. We sat in the waiting room at the PT for 2 hours - he refused to go to PT and he refused to leave - just sat there with a spacey look on his face. But yesterday, after being non-compliant all day at school, he went to PT without a problem. Then mealtime comes and he snaps out of it. He has not gone to work at school for 3 days - refused to get on the bus or conversely refused to get OFF the bus once they got there. Went on a community trip and sat down and wailed outside a theater where he was going to see NUTCRACKER - a ballet he loves) - but after 1/2, he came to himself and went into the theater and behaved with his usual appropriate behavior and awe - great the rest of the day. This morning he started with his 1/2 hour in the bathroom just after he got to school. I await to see what happens with that.
