Guest guest
Hi, Ann, You have helped me so much with TT, perhaps I can help you for a change. I was listening to the webinar today so heard your question about babies who open their mouths at breast but don't close down. I have always felt that was because the baby needed a superstimulous to know that there was something in there to take ahold of - whether there was a tongue tie or not. One thing I've found that helps is to have mother poke her breast directly under baby's nose so that the nipple points up and swipes the palate for a moment. I've heard of mothers sticking a finger quickly into the baby's mouth to swipe the palate. When all else fails I will use a nipple shield. That was one thing I did not agree with Alison on. I do use nipple shields, and feel that if they are properly sized and applied and baby is brought into a deep latch that they can sometimes be a wonderful tool. I usually consider it a transitional tool to get baby back to breast. Hope to meet you at ILCA. Anne Grider
