Guest guest
Hugs Liz, some days are worse than others! I think us Mommies can't ever " turn off " being a Mommy so when we are trying to hand over the responsibilities to Daddy, we can't fully hand it over if we're still in the same room or still at home. If we can hear them, our Mommy hat is still on! LOL! I think the only time we truly can shut off the Mommy switch and give it over to someone else is when they are at school or physically separated from us. I know that if I'm home and I request a little assistance, I have to know that Daddy is going to definitely do things quite a bit different than I do. NOT that I'm perfect in anyway but of course, I think my way is best! LOL! Take a deep breath, cook some more (couldn't resist!) and know that it could be ALOT worse! I try to remember that when I'm losing it - this could be worse... I don't know if this helped you at all but I can definitely empathize with you. I think most of us have experienced similar feelings! Marriage, parenting, and life are all a lot of hard work. But the days that it's good, it's REAL GOOD. But unfortunately those are the days we forget so fast! Hang in there and know that you are a great Mommy, a wonderful wife, a huge help to the kids you are working with and a heck of an entrepreneur too- quite the business savvy lady! Tomorrow's Monday, they have school!!!!!!! Take care, Jayne Liz D wrote: What do you do when your dh has off from work, you have to work, and you ask him to take out the trash and run to the store & pick up a six-pack of soda and you get home and he is JUST getting into the shower? I wanted to thrash him!! When Tori calls Daddy, it takes him a hell of a long time to respond to her. Therefore, she is consistently calling him, awaiting a response. I have told him many a times, if you answer her right away, she will stop. Today, as usual for a Sunday in our house, Tori & I were up around 8 and dad slept until Noon! I had already done 5 loads of laundry, fed her, entertained her, vacuumed and then cooked a nice brunch. Tori & I went to a Holiday Party with our local Autism group around 4 p.m. and got home about 6:15 p.m. I walk in and he asks if I could cook him something for dinner. Hello-ever heard of left overs??? Ok, so I cook him up something quick and I am then in the midst of doing something (another load of laundry), she is not behaving, I ask him to intervene and " He Calls Her..like she is going to drop what she is doing and run to him! But I work 16.25 hours out of the house, and work 72 hours a day at home, as well as try to keep my sanity. Maybe is part of menopause. I don't know. I just felt I needed to let this out before I lose it totally! Thanks for listening! Guest guest
I can see why you are upset. You let him sleep until noon? I am very fortunate, since I have a great husband who helps a lot with our son. He never sleeps until noon on the weekend, but if he did I'd find a way to wake him up. It sounds like he needs some cooking lessons too (or maybe just a little get up & go attitude shift)! Our son is 14 and got his autism diagnosis at age 9. From what little I've seen already, I feel very lucky. He is not on any meds. I can take him to stores, restaurants, etc. Sometimes we have a bad episode, but it is rare. Guest guest
I,too, can see why you would be upset. I have also lucked out and have a DH that is very helpful where he can be. He's the step-father so, he's totally knew to alot of the events we have going on with Landon. Landon is 15 and got his dual dx at 13 1/2. My DH has no children of his own so this has been a big learning experience for him but he's been a trooper through the whole thing and loves to interract with Landon. The only thing he's got an issue with is the diapers, he's not really good with that yet, but he's doing well. He wakes up and 4am everyday including weekends and if Landon is up or gets up before I do he does everything and let's me get up on my own. As far as what Landon can do and not do, he doesn't take any meds except his new seizure meds, but I can't take him to stores or restaurants, he doesn't like large crowds of people. > > > > What do you do when your dh has off from work, you have to work, > and you ask him to take out the trash and run to the store & pick up > a six-pack of soda and you get home and he is JUST getting into the > shower? Guest guest
Let's all vent!! My DH suddenly can't understand anything that Elie says - Elie is soooo patient and repeats what he is saying again and again - then the DH gets upseet and starts yelling. Yes, his heariing is going, but so is his concentration. ANd I am NOT talking about Elie. Then there is my dog - still a puppy of 9 months. DH doesn't like her. he refuses to learn her commands, jusst yells at her. SHe jumps on him and he throws his hands up and says " Its your dog - I don't wnaat anything to do with her. " . I reminded him (cause I was soooo p.o'd that that was his reaction to all his kids requests as well) I am really thinking about getting a job just so I don't have to be home with him. I love being retired and have lots of things I want to do. So does he, but he mutters constantly and acts like he has a big committee meeting when he has all the time in the world and no pressure to finish anything on a set time schedule. i am sure that some of elie's behaviors recently are in reaction to his father's non-existant patience. And I am soooo saintly that I can handle everything and do it better. Yes, I am definitely in line for a halo or a crown. But at this rate, I will end up with both andalso end up a single parent with a murder conviction!!! Guest guest
Venting sounds like a great idea! My DH has very low tolerance for anything or anyone that puts demands on him. Heaven knows his computer puzzles & games and movies are so much more important than maybe playing a board game with Katelyn or reading to Janie. Katelyn suggests (in front of him) that we need Super Nanny or Wife Swap to get him to be more present. He would let 3 or 4 bags of garbage pile up in the kitchen before he would take it out, has 2 big dressers full of clothes but will wear one set of clothes until they fall off, whines when he gets the slightest physical discomfort, etc.,etc., etc... I keep reminding myself about the good things: he doesn't drink, smoke, or do drugs. He doesn't chase around. I always know exactly where he is and what he is doing. He likes the kids to have friends over (well, Janie never does, but Katelyn does). He doesn't skip work and has a strong work ethic away from home! But around here he does not seem able to complete the jobs he starts. For example he changed our closet 2 years ago so he could have a locking door on his half. My side still has no door and the trim never got put on. He just painted Katelyn's room and put in new flooring but didn't paint her door yet. (I'll probably end up doing it). When he put in Janie's new flooring he left gaps by her closet door. It has been a week and there is no indication when he will get around to putting small pieces in to complete the job and he still has not made the shelf for her t.v. She needs a shelf high up so she can't toss the t.v. on the floor, where it now sits for safety. He is a truck driver so he gets bored and calls me every half hour or less all day long just to chat but doesn't seem to have a voice face-to-face! Throws off my flow of activities. I hope he never retires because I really do not need another kid with issues at home all the time!!! It feels like I'm a single parent a lot of the time even when he is here. Been there, done that, didn't want to do it again. Whew! Feels good to let that go... Lets all have a good day. P. Guest guest
Elie has a little 13 " tv on his dresser which I guess he could toss if he wanted to. NEver thought about him doing that. But the TV in my office - a 24 " is on a attached to the wall high up rack with straps and a shelf underneath for DVD/VCR. I was afraid he might put a foot through it or throw something at it. The one in the main room of the house is in a cabinet and is too heavy for him to move and too high up to kick . He could still thorw something at it. Guess I am glad I never thought of that! Guest guest
Janie dumped hers off the dresser about 3 times. She hasn't tried the big one in the LR, but has tossed the microwave and big toaster/convection oven a few times. She is fast! I once tried to catch the flying micro and ended up with a sprained finger... P. > > Elie has a little 13 " tv on his dresser which I guess he could toss if he > wanted to. Guest guest
OMG! My nephew, who is 13 and 6'4.5 " now tossed my sister's 27 " tv off the stand. When he was about 2, he would stand and watch the TV with his one hand on the side of it, and one day he decided to pull it and down it went. Well, it was then chained to the wall. Guest guest
Janie dumped hers off the dresser about 3 times. She hasn't tried the big one in the LR, but has tossed the microwave and big toaster/convection oven a few times. She is fast! I once tried to catch the flying micro and ended up with a sprained finger... P. And I thought all this time was the only destructive one!! Recently, this small tv I have had for 15 plus years, she knocked off the very low bookshelf we moved in her room. Broke the tv. We need a low bookshelf since she climbs, if she falls, its not that far to the ground.
