I agree with what wrote, I add that Boppies or other pillows should be

considered " Training wheels " (someone else's words... just can't remember whos)

so if they are going to choose one, make sure that they won't feel that they

have wasted their money... but better yet they should instead choose to use

other types of pillows. Also, like - I also notice how they feel that

babies are such fragile creatures... I use words from Mohrbacher in

" Breastfeeding made SImple " about baby and mother having instincts and they need

to put them to use. I think it helps take the load off of mom, that she is not

responsible for everything and she can be encouraging her baby's natural

instincts to feed... reminding her that we are mammels! and babies have a strong

instinct to survive!

how helpful it is to her, I am pretty reluctant to tell her to junk it, if I see

that it is creating positioning issues then I might give her a suggestion on how

to say roll a towel into that space to provide a more level surface and if she

tells me the boppy isn't working for her of course I would never insist she use

it. I find that these tools are often relatively easy to adapt to most users (I

know there are exceptions)....but for me I am reluctant to always encourage use

of a certain pillow, or discourage it's use if it can be appropriately adapted

if she finds it helpful, and try to find a way to work with what she perceives

as helpful.

to hold and position their newborns, I have had women tell me they literally

can't move their baby to switch breasts and they don't know how to do it and

watch them take a very, very long time....I'm not trying to sound critical, it

just still can be surprising to me to witness this.
