Guest guest
We are moving on to another therapist as recommended by our psychiatrist. My past therapist was doing what she thought was CBT ,but it seemed to be just distraction. I hope this new therapist (who belongs to OCF) can help us. I had a private session with her to discuss Matt's history and symptoms and to talk about what she could do with him. I have to admit that even though you can't be sure what will actually help, I do feel better that we will use an approach we haven't tried before. I've got nothing to loose. My son's primary obsession is with throwing up and he's been symptomatic for a couple of weeks now. During the past 2 weeks there's a lot of gastroenteritis in the school (the trigger?). Well, poor Matt got it. Tuesday I went to his singing concert at the school, but Matt refused to attend and had panic attacks (noise and crowds bother him when he's anxious). Later in the afternoon, I got a call to come and pick him up because he had thrown up. I brought him home and he had a fever. Talk about exposure!!! We had a breakthrough though. Matt told me that though he was thinking and worrying about getting sick the fact that he actually did it made him not nervous anymore!!! I said " it's interesting that you said that because that's exactly what our new therapist is going to talk with you about and that is what we think is going to help you " . He told me that the fear always comes back a day later and I told him that she was going to help him learn how to stop that. Gosh I hope I'm right. I was worried last week if Matt would be amenable to ERP and the events this week I hope mean that he is indeed ripe for it. I'm waiting to hear back from the therapist.
