Guest guest
Yes, the covers are only to retain moisture so that your seeds won't dry out before the can germinate. Once you see any green, take off the covers so that the sprouts can breath. This is for all sprouts except mung beans. I think mung beans taste best if you don't let them get green. ew Question about flax and chia greens I have grown them in the past with great success but about 7 days ago (in the middle of a hundred degree heat wave) and I WAS watering them every day but they were growing on coffee filters, well the smell hit me and I tossed them all. I had used the Debbie Myers Green boxes turned upside down and left them covered. While we might not be in yet another heat wave, I just put up 5 new batches. I'm growing them on Sure to Grow Mats. Once I see the little sprouts, do I then remove any covers? I just want to make sure. This is how EW says to do the pea shoots so I'm imagining the same rules apply?? Thanks, Melody
Guest guest
Ernest. Okay, just removed the covers because they are starting to green up. Here's my final question. Do I water the sure to grow mat, or do I water the Chia and Flax directly? I don't want to dry them out nor do I want to drown them? Once I get this down pat, I'll know what to do from here on in. And thanks much. And you'll love this. This morning, as I left my breakfast place, because one of the gang did not come in, I had an extra bag of sprouts in my bag. I walk into Walgreens, see a person I know behind the counter and because it was not busy I said " Remember I told you I grow sprouts in my house? " and she said " yeah " . I whipped out the ziplock bag and she said " Oh, THOSE are sprouts?? " I then went into my description of exactly what kind of sprouts 'Broccoli, radish, etc. " . As I'm talking another person walks up and says 'how do you do that? " I stood there and gave my little speech. The lady said " And where do you get the seeds? " I then told her where online we get our seeds. I said " do you know how to use a computer? " She said " no, but my daughter does, I'm going to tell her about sprouting " . I simply said " While you are doing that just tell her to go to google and type in Benefits of Sprouting, then you can decide if this is for you " . That's when the girl behind the counter asked " Do you cook them? " I then explained how one eats the brassicas but when I got into the peas and how they SHOOT UP, well their eyes got big and round. By the time I was done, the bells were going off in the other lady's head. The one who was leaving the place, not the one behind the counter. Some people want to take the time to learn this stuff, others couldn't care less. That's fine. Because we do it one day AND ONE PERSON at a time. lol Melody
Guest guest
I can see it now: " Brooklyn Becomes Sprouting Capital of the World " You just water the mats. However, a little misting wouldn't hurt. ew Re: Question about flax and chia greens Ernest. Okay, just removed the covers because they are starting to green up. Here's my final question. Guest guest
EW Well, because I have the chia and flax on a mat that is laying in a tray with holes, I simply lifted it over my head, took my misting bottle and sprayed it from the bottom. Guest guest
Hi All. This morning was very funny at breakfast. As I walked in I handed the little ziplock bags of sprouts to their appreciative owners and Debbie announces " Oh, something happened the other day, a co-worker approached me and said 'What are you doing, you are losing weight YOU LOOK AMAZING!!! " And Debbie replied " Why I'm eating Sprouts " . So funny!! Everybody in the place burst out laughing, even the cook!!! lol Melody

Guest guest
Yeah I know what you meant. But I figured, if I just want to get water on the mat I thought I would lift up the whole thing over my head and spray from the bottom. Want to know what happened?
