Guest guest
It is important to note that in the US drywall is now being made with the material that is " scrubbed " from the emission stacks of coal-fired power plants. The EPA has deemed this material too hazardous to emit into the atmosphere, but for some reason it is ok to blend it with gypsum and then sandwhich it between paper to make wallboard for use in bedroom. The hydrogen sulfide compounds may give the most obvious effect of the leeching process as it will indeed corrode certain types of metals, notable the condensor coils in a/c units and refrigerators. But the material that is being used from the power plants have many other toxic components, not the least of which are mercuy and derrivative compounds. Like flouride and probably countless other aspects of our modern life, it is cheaper for both industry and government to give everybody low-grade chronic exposures to toxic waste the effects of which can be hidden in population studies than it is to deal with either recycling waste in a safe manner or developing safer alternatives to what is currently beign produced. We hear a lot about the mess China is " dumping " on us because they are a foreign, semi-hostile society to our own. Not much mention about our homegrown dangers, such as perchlorate in our water supplies, the use of round-up on our food crops or the quiet change of chlorinating agents for our drinking water which causes lead to leech out of PVC pipes.
