Guest guest
I wrote earlier asking if anyone had girls who cut their hair & many of you answered. Now I would like to know if any of your autistic daughters pulls out their hair and at what age. In the past Jenn pulled out her hair until she had bald spots. Through counselling we thought we had this problem licked. But now at age 12 1/2 she started once again - she now has 2 large bald spots in the back of her beautiful long wavy hair. When questioned about it she just laughs. I know this is the way she shows her emotions, not understanding the usual reaction. She loves to play on the computer, especially the program Roller Coaster (her obcession at the moment), so this was her punishment, to stay off the computer for one month. So far it seems to be working. When punished like this by taking away a privilege, she never whines about it but accepts it as a fact. Re: I'm new My daughter, , now almost eight, has on occasion cut her hair also. Never anything drastic, but she has made some very interesting layers in her hair! Thanks for everyone posting on this topic, now I know I'm not the only one who has to deal with this behavior. Vickie
Guest guest
My 13 year old daughter pulls her hair out and so far we haven't found a treatment. We've tried meds which helped a little, but the side effects were too bad so we stopped them. She has bad bald spots and we finally had to cut her hair shorter, it was too uneven from her pulling it out. SHe used to have thick, long beautiful hair. We are working with a nutritionist now, I hope it helps. Our daugher is only 3 years old or so developmentally and her OCD is getting worseas she gets older, and consequences don't really work for her, she really doesn't seem to be a ble to control it. I think there must be a reason for it. The nutritionist does hair analysis and is trying to do mineral balance through diet and supplements. I hope it eventually works!!! Guest guest
How much exercise does she get. Abbie did this and other things until she got into the program at Higashi. I see the hair pulling thing with PMS but very mild now. Re: Re: hair pulling > My 13 year old daughter pulls her hair out and so far we haven't found a > treatment. Guest guest
Hello, I'm from Belgium. Sorry if "my English" is not perfect, but it's not my native language... One month ago my daughter pulled her hair during two days. It was not clear whether it was a compulsive-obsessive behaviour whether she had pain. In hospital they couldn't find any explanation for it, except maybe it could be Alopecia. Thanks to a friend we joined the conference in Bournemouth, which was very interesting and hope-giving!! We met a DAN! doctor who gave us advice and we are now waiting for the results of several analyses that were to be done. Meanwhile my little daughter takes some supplements. Everything went well, untill we started Zinc. She often starts crying and starts pulling her hair again, could there be a connection with Zinc? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Greet Zinc seems to upset people if they have unfriendly parasites in the gut.. this would also link with Mandi's comment on the full moon- parasites lay eggs and hatch eggs at the full moon-- so this is also the correct time to treat the body to kill off parasites. Good luck Tracey In blood tests that were done earlier there was mentioned she had a deficit of Zinc. I read that such deficit can influence behaviour and the development of the brain. Maybe if Zinc works, there is an influence on the behaviour too? >>Yes, and low zinc is often accompanied by high copper. Giving Zinc will reduce the copper but can cause issues while its doing it. (one displaces the other). I would try cutting down the dose, continue with food and work up very slowly, the eases things. If you google zinc copper inbalance and autism you'll find loads of stuff. Maybe these were full moon behaviours, has it stopped now? Mandi x
