Guest guest
As PSSD is caused by drugs that increase serotonin and change receptor sensitivity, has anyone tried opposite way in order to reverse PSSD, using drugs that lower serotonin? I found a webpage of a doctor who thinks that even tryptophan can be bad: http://raypeat.com/articles/aging/tryptophan-serotonin-aging.shtml " On the tryptophan-poor diet, the amount of serotonin in the brain decreased. When brain serotonin decreases, the level of testosterone in male animals increases. More than 20 years ago, a chemical (p- chlorophenylalanine) that inhibits serotonin synthesis was found to tremendously increase libido. " My personal experience has been that 5-HTP and supplemental tryptophan makes me worse. Does anyone have experience with p-cholophenylalanine, reversible tryptophan hydroxylase inhibitors or serotonin antagonist? It might be hard to convince a doctor to prescribe such drugs. Most likely, they would also induce a dangerous depression but if they could change our state in the long run, it would be worth it.
Guest guest
Hi, That's an interesting link you provided. I've become pretty wary of these internet health "experts" and their opinions, but this guy at least references a lot of studies to support his position. I was already aware of some of tryptophan/serotonin's negative effects, such as suppression of thyroid hormone, but some of this stuff is downright scary. I'm beginning to believe a lot of the people who end up on antidepressants actually have too much serotonergic activity too begin with. Particularly those who are hit hardest with the SSRI induced sexual function. The modern diet is too heavily laden with serotonin boosting foods. Especially all the garbage that kids eat. The link also mentions that childhood stress can cause a chronic elevation of serotonin levels into adulthood. The article also mentions some stuff that lowers serotonin. Good stuff...
