Guest guest
I was just wondering if any one that has had ESY for their kids can tell me how they were able to agree on how many hours and days per week? The school has already agreed to give us ESY, but we are having another ARD to set up the schedule and I know that they won't want to do much. What do most kids get? My daughter gets 3.5 hours a day, 5 days a week during the school year. She is 4 1/2 yrs old and in PPCD and functioning about 22 mos. Also, another question that was brought up at the last ARD by the speech therapist is that she said ESY was only for skills already mastered. Now, I understand they can't introduce new skills, but I thought they just continued with the IEP that was in place. Ours was new in Jan. so there are several things not mastered. I feel like they are making an excuse to do as little as possible. What is the rule on this? It doesn't seem right for her to go back and work on things that were mastered last year? If anyone has any advice, that would be great. Thanks. Cheryl
Guest guest
Call me if you want They are doing it for a lot of children- mostly higher functioning. To answer your questions see below PS on- Spates put this together and would like to share with any county - Tom is the guy at the YMCA and he has done this for many counties across the country. , Is Coweta County schools offering ESY services thru YMCA for children who are ESY eligible? YES Do they provide teachers- parapro? YES- there will be teachers and paras and they are training the rest of the kids. For Colter he needs more of a structured program so they are using these typical peers to do a structured morning- this Summer program is being held at one of our private school in our community- they have rock climbing and rope courses and hiking trails. it is pretty exciting- we are just worried about the staff. They are also going to have Speech, OT, and ABA people on staff at the YMCA Is Coweta county doing this for just one child or several children? They would prefer to do this for all the kids in the county so they don't have to use the school buildings- and can lighten the load for the staff. Has Coweta county been doing this for a while? No, this is the first year and to be very frank it is making some of us very nervous- but we are getting 8 weeks versus 4 weeks and there is a lot more being offered and there are typical peers.Sorry for so many questions- we are working on this in our county. I would call - she loves to share her ideas- and there is no need to reinvite the wheel. Please call if I can help.
