Guest guest
A website that has a lot of information about detoxing is www.theherbfinder.com. I used one product of theirs that I think made a big difference. Ortho-Phos. They also have some products for cleaning the colon. One discussion about a colon cleanse is incredible! Guest guest
That is a good question. I know Lynda Roth of COSS in Denver CO ( http://www.siliconesurvivors.net/editor.html [and be forewarned--her site takes forever to download the info]) said she had to take many times the recommended daily allowances to be able to absorb enough of each supplement to make a difference. She was so sick the doctors didn't think she would live, after she received breast implants after breast cancer. I don't think I could recommend doing that with some vitamins, but I know that some doctors can test you to see what nutrients you are lacking and how you can best get them inside of you to be utilized. Some people may need to have an IV of supplements, if they can't absorb them properly. It is unfortunately, just guess work for most of us. Taking supplements sometimes is like buying insurance. You have it just in case you need it. Here's an article I found that might be of interest: http://www.slimcity.com/articles/supplements.cfm Do Your Supplements Pass or Just Pass Through You? Of interest to many vitamin users is whether or not their vitamins are being absorbed, but equally important is whether or not the capsule is even breaking down. Researchers at the University of land analyzed nine different pre-natal prescription vitamin tablets to see how they were dissolving. Of particular importance was the folate contain in each vitamin. Folate has been shown to help ensure a healthy pregnancy. The results of their investigation showed only a 33% success rate; in other words, only three of the nine tablets passed. While many brands did dissolve some other well known names failed at passing the U.S. Pharmacopeia dissolution rate. The USP is made up of a body of experts in pharmacy, medicine and other fields. The USP is a non-profit organization intended to help determine basic standards for many supplements, including vitamins and minerals. Their measurement for a successful product must include 75% dissolution of riboflavin (B2) and 75% dissolution of iron within one hour of being stirred in a weak solution of hydrochloric acid. Two very well known brands failed in the testing, Geritol Complete and GNC Women's Solotron. When GNC was asked about why their product failed their response was " GNC doesn't check Women's Solotron for dissolution " . As far as a response from Geritol, a spokesperson said that the USP method of testing was lacking in consistency and other " alternative test methods " need to be employed. Just as important as dissolution is absorption. You may be taking a product that dissolves well, but your body may not be able to absorb its components. Not only are you wasting your money you're depriving yourself of much needed supplementation. It has been widely demonstrated that supplementation can enhance a body's ability to ward off infection or even heart disease. Recently Vitamin E has been getting more and more attention as an effective approach to ward off heart disease. And everyone knows that Vitamin C is essential to a healthy body. Just what can consumers do to help insure they're getting their supplements worth? We'd suggest that you get supplements from manufacturers who can testify to their properties (energy, well-being, vitality). Companies who control batch-to-batch results to that you get a quality controlled product. We also recommend that you always take your supplements just before beginning your meal, this gives them more time to be dissolved and absorbed. Lastly, we recommend using a product along with your vitamins and minerals that helps ensure absorption.[Note: Patty says, OK, so what product is that? Digestive enzymes?] If you're not absorbing your supplements then it doesn't matter whether they're dissolving or not.
