Guest guest
Ok some of you.... I have written some on some of my lists, and some of my online friends, of my concern and upset the other day and informed that the high school has this conract idea for my son. , being both Aspergers and ADHD, has some issues with worrying. RECENTLY, one time he sent himself to the office of Spec Ed, the supposed "Safe Haven" and worried to them. Then he went to choir, after that he had study hall. THe SLP came to see him. She wanted to talk about things that she had planned and obsessed over his thoughts and worries about that same project he wil have to work on over Christmas break that upset him. They said that was upsetting to the staff as he couldnt stop obessing about his project that he was assigned.. SO, to supposedly help him. (They said that is what they want to do, and it is a good idea, but I want this fair to him) They set up a contract. I did not like the way it was written one sided. They said that they would change it per my requests, but I got a copy to day and it is the exact thing. I am upset. The only thing that they changed is that they stated that it was a "responsiblity plan". I just do not know what to make of this or what to do about this. They are still stating the things below. Please inform what I can do. I sent the Sped Ed prin many notes and indicated that the following type of plan be included. ( SEE MY PLAN at bottom). She has only agreed to the plan that I wil write under their plan. I just do not want this to be a problem . is now feeling like he is being forced, and has to sign the plan. Also, they state at the bottom where he signs, " I understand this Responsibility Plan and had input in thie plan/" He got no input, all he did was see this on paper and then was told about it. Is that input might I ask? Arghh. Oh, yes , he has an IEP, and yes, it states that he gets a stress pass when needed to leave the room, It also states that he gets 20 min per wek for social worker. They have not been giving this. The social worker is on maternity leave until Feb, and has been gone since OCT. They have not given him any services since then. He does go in, when he is all worried about a test of some kind. HE also has some times that he has gone to see the other school SW when worried, but he has not yet come to , and they have insisted that that is because some of the IEP min can be consultation time with other staff , as that is what they said SW min can mean., I disagree, It doesnt mean that. His IEP was written with exact minutes in mind to help his Aspergers. I guess they can find ways around this? Hmm that is odd to me. REad on,, Ok, this is THEIR PLAN " SCHOOL The Responsiblity plan between and his teachers/assistants. This plan is being initiated to provide with adequate time to discuss problems/concerns that may arise during the school day. The following are steps that can be taken to assist when he needs to discuss a problem/ concern that is interfering with his ability to concentrate on his school work. Changes to this plan can be made by any of the individuals involved is all participants agree. 1. may request to talk to his assistant ( Aide) at any time regarding an issue. The teaching assistant may indicate that needs to write the issue down or wait for a more appropriate time to discuss the matter. 2. PAul may request to talk to the following : Mr L the SW, or Mrs G the caseworker, or Mrs C the SLP. 3. will have a time limit of 10 minutes to discuss the problem and develop a solution. 4. will only be allowed to discuss the matter further if it approved by a teacher or teacher assistant. 5. PAul will be given two verbal warnings if he is unable to end the discussion. 6. After the third warning, PAul;s mom will be called and the matter discussed. 7. If necessary, a meeting will be initiated with , his parents, and teachers involved to discuss the issue further. END of CONTRACT Ok, this is me speaking now..... see anything wrong here? It is still one sided, but I did write them a note, and told them on the phone about this., They said that they would revise it. This is still what I got , and as one sided as before. Ok, I , wrote, just rambing, an idea for a proposed contract. I would like this to be what it says maybe in not so many words, but in some manner. HOW CAN I GET THEM TO SEE THIS>>> HELP!!! What do you think? See below.. MY CONTRACT IDEAS MY CONTRACT ideas .. This Responsibility Plan is between and his teachers and assistants. This plan being initiated is to help with having a safe place and a proper time to de-stress. Per his IEP, will have a place and time to de-stress and cool down when needed. It will be understood that will need to be reminded about this plan. When a problem comes up, he may have to be reminded about the contract. It may take more than one occurrence for him to understand this plan fully. Due to his having Aspergers, he is not always able to understand Social skills situations, so this will be a plan that will be used as a social story of sorts, where will be taught to handle his stress and learn how to attempt to get things off his mind when he would tend to perseverate due to his disabilities. Since it takes repetition for to "grasp" social concepts, a contract of his nature would be difficult for to automatically remember the contract, especially if he was very upset. has needs in the areas of learning how to handle his concerns and stresses and learning how to de-stress in the proper amount of time in the proper places. A cooling off period, and de-sressing pass are already a part of his IEP. Having that put in place, will be reminded by the teacher's assistant who works with if he needs to put off his concern, by writing it down and discussing it later, when it interferes with his school work. The folllowing are steps that can be taken to assist when he needs to discuss a problem or concern that is making him obsess and worry during school. Changes to this plan can be made by any of the parties involved, however, if and his parents do not agree to the changes, the changes will not be made unless they are agree that this is in the best interest of working with to help his disabilities. 1. may request to talk to any of the Social workers at the school any time that he needs to discuss something that he feels is a crisis. He can talk to a teacher or teacher aide during class, and if they feel that he needs to have further help to de-stress, then will be told when that time is going to be, so that he is assured that he will have the proper time and place to discuss a problem. The teacher's aide can make sure that can learn the steps to take to de-stress. She can have him write down his problem until later or remind him about using his study hall period later in the day for this reason, to talk to a social worker at the school. 2. may request to talk to any of the school Social workers, or Mrs. Gassman, Mrs Castenada. 3. will have a time limit of 20 min, and he will work to try to solve his problem in this time period. He will be reminded of the time and getting to the point of resolving the problem during this time period. 4. will have a chance to learn from the social worker about the appropriate ways to solve the issues. They will discuss the many ways to look at the problem and the possible solutions. will not just be told to stop talking about the problem if he just cannot get it off his mind. Someone will work with him on the issues. 5. will not discuss the matter further in the day once he has gotten to the point where he has done all the steps above. 6. IF has continued to discuss the problems further will get at least two written warnings. He will be reminded. 7. After the third warning, 's Mom may have to be called and the matter discussed. 8. A meeting may need to be initiated with 's parents and the social worker, case worker, any other staff member who is necessary. 9. All staff members will understand 's limitations, and the disorder that he has, and all staff members will read and follow 's IEP.
