Guest guest
I know that it's against the law to force medical care upon someone, and that it's lying by omission to say you have to have shots for school. I use waivers, of course. But, I am wondering if anyone knows the law they are breaking here, or some good ideas on what to do about the constant lying they do concerning vaccines? I still run into people who think that vaccines are mandatory and never heard of waivers. This is the email my son's school sent me, and I know I will be getting numerous recorded messages as well, since I did last year: ==========================Begin email================================ " If your child has not received the required vaccinations by August 23rd, Please take your child directly to his Physician or one of the shot clinics before bringing him/her to campus on the first day of class. There will be NO District-Sponsored Shot Clinic on August 23, 2010. If your child has received his/her immunization before the 23rd, we recommend that you bring the shot record to the campus nurse the week before school starts. For more information contact the School Nurse. NO Shots/No School. Guest guest
I dont know what law is being broken if any but I called my son's superindendents office last year and told them they needed to get a leash on the nurse at my son's school. She sent out letters at some point in the summer listing the " mandatory " vaccines for kids to return and then I started getting voice mails saying that my son had to recieve certain vaccines before returning. I called and told them that by saying this they are acting as if the exemption law is not even on the books and they are totally disregarding it. I told them that in my opinion it was shameful and draconian to LIE to parents that way telling them their children couldnt come to school w/ out the vaccines. They apologized and didnt argue w/ me. I dont know what happened to " nurse Ratched " as we call her LOL. She didnt bother me again. > > I know that it's against the law to force medical care upon someone, and that it's lying by omission to say you have to have shots for school. I use waivers, of course. Guest guest
Here in Ontario, Canada, the situation is almost the same, except here, we have our Public Health nurses contacting schools to notify school admin about who to suspend because the students' shots are not up to date. The school admin assistants then do the "dirty work" of notifying parents about the situation. Years ago, I received such notices myself. There was never any mention made about how to apply for vaccine exemptions. It was only after I came across this list group and had some contact with Autism Canada folks, that I finally got the gumption to go and get the official exemption forms from our public health department and have them notarized by a notary public. The whole process was a lot easier than I thought it would be, and it did not cost me a cent. All the best, Aasa Subject: Re: No shots No School lie. Guest guest
I called the county health department and complained that the message they left stated that vaccines are mandatory before entering school. I informed them of our exemption forms and that vaccines are not mandatory. I am being interviewed on Friday along with the county health department on vaccines and the new school year.. I have already educated the school nurse who thought she could interrogate and intimidate me. I think it worked the other way around and she will never bother me again. Because vaccine viruses are shed for weeks after receiving and can infect others vaccinated or not, they should be kept home after getting a vaccine. I am looking forward to my interview! Also, I think if a doctor refuses to serve your family because of the choice you have made not to vaccinate, which is our right, we should sue them for discrimination. I feel empowered!! Don't forget to go to NVIC and watch Barbara Loe Fisher explain about the whooping cough outbreak in Ca. I know they will ask me about that.. I am ready. Guest guest
I agree with you. Many of the school employees (I work at a school) do not know there is a waiver available here in CA, and also a waiver for the TB test. Parents need to know their rights. Students at the school I work at are threatened with not being able to attend class until they have the vaccines. Guest guest
Carol, Where can I locate the information on the TB test exemption? Is this only for students? As a parent volunteer, do I qualify for exemption? I did the x-ray last year. Candyce From: Carol Acevedo Sent: Wednesday, August 11, 2010 2:11 PM To: eoharm Subject: RE: No shots No School lie. Guest guest
I'd love to see that, too. We did the blood test for a respite facility (even though the RN said they would only accept the skin test). I haven't turned in the paperwork yet and want to be prepared. Thanks, CGF > > Carol, > Where can I locate the information on the TB test exemption? Is this only for students? As a parent volunteer, do I qualify for exemption? Guest guest
To my knowledge, there is no exemption for volunteers. If you find out there is, please tell me!! The TB exemption is the signture line right on the bottom of the blue card underneath the vaccine waiver. You can also waive the doc visit and dental visit.
