Guest guest
Hi all- While I'm not thinking of being Bridget's aide, I think it's their job to find one and train her/him, I am planning to be a 'mommy helper' in the classroom. This will put me in the classroom at least one day a week, help me network with other mom's(hopefully, we all know how this ends up sometimes), and maybe enlist their help in keeping an eye on what is happening/not happening with Bridget. Of course, this assumes that any other mom is able or willing to volunteer- I hear that some years they get none. I hope to find a Daisy Girl Scout Troop 'we' can join or at least one other mom who would like to help me start one. They also hire people to be playground monitors but I don't know what I'd do with my 2 year old for 2 hours every day while I was doing that. I really try to balance what I do for Bridget with not neglecting - I am a SAHM for a reason and I want to have the benefit of that. I am amazed by those of you who work outside of the home and also do the majority of the autism stuff. Whew- makes me tired thinking of it! Bridget's aide will sink or swim- she's smart enough to know she's in over her head and I think she will demand training. The school is looking into consulting with the private ABA provider that we were using this last fall- I am 'encouraging' them to do this. Her new SPED teacher really wants to work with B, is very fasinated with autism, wants to learn from her, but I don't want B to be someones test subject/learning experience- I want someone who halfway has a clue working with her.
