Guest guest
I would call your Doctor now, in case he wants to see you before June 1 or schedule appointments with specialists. Painful lymph nodes under the arms could be a infrequent but normal response to HIV, or it could be caused by so many other things it hardly bears going into a long list. But it is an unusual symptom which bears examining. Many studies have shown that the people with HIV who are the most healthy over time, are their own advocates. Being slightly pushy with medical specialists and making sure you understand everything they are saying, and being certain they understand you, is critical to your continued good health. The squaky wheel gets the grease. >> Hi! I hope this question does not sound too stupid. I have what I am > assuming is hard painful lymph nodes under my left armpit. It is better to be proactive than to wait. About three weeks ago I noticed a large, rubbery, lump that can be moved around very near where my arm and chest muscles join. My regular doc was on vacation at the time, and due back in a few days and I had a scheduled appointment as it was. I saw another doctor who promptly said the lump was a benign lipoma and I was somewhat assured. My doctor was not so easily convinced. He found small, swollen lymph nodes in various parts of my body, and ordered lab work and X-rays which were fine, also a CT scan which was done a couple of days ago. Last week two very enlarged lymph nodes, very similar to the first lump, appeared in each of my armpits. I will see my doctor this coming Tuesday and hope it will be good news. So, please don't wait. Don't panic either, but please do call your doctor. Joe
Guest guest
Are lymph nodes also what we have on either side of the throat and bellow the jaw? I've had two lumps (left and right side) for some time now and would like to know if there is anything I can do to make them smaller, go away or taken out. Has anyone else had these? 32824 wrote: Yes, I'd contact the doc early in the week for an appt. Sometimes enlarged lymph nodes are there because your body is fighting infection somewhere in the body. The enlargement is the lymph nodes doing it's wonderful job of filtering out destroyed white cells that died while fighting for you. So, many times, a broad antibiotic will clear the infection, thus causing the nodes to shrink back to normal. But, only your Dr can determine if you are running some type of infection, and can prescribe the appropriate antibiotic. Now, last year I had many large lymph nodes, and had minor surgery to have some taken out of my groin for biopsy. I also had several taken out during my gall bladder operation in 8/05. My oncologist thought that I may, just may, have lymphoma, since I have Kaposi's sarcoma. Thankfully, both times the results were negative for lymphoma. I'm not saying that you have cancers at all; I was only checked for lymphoma because of my history of having KS, so don't panic lol.. You're more than likely running an infection somewhere, and a good antibiotic will make you good as new. If you had many enlarged nodes, and they were painful, the Dr may have a biopsy done on one or two (nothing to a biopsy btw) Should you be worried? No. We have enough to worry about without creating something in our mind to worry about. Save 'worry' until after you get bad news, then get proactive. But, I'm sure you'll be fine, and in a month, you'll forget about those lymph nodes. Good luck, Trav Joe Palmer wrote: Hi! I hope this question does not sound too stupid.
