Guest guest
I have a friend who has Hep C and said that the only treatment is alpha-interpheron-A for 6 months, or pegalated interferon A (same stuff, just lasts longer in system.) , or liver transplant. (And HIV/AIDS people are wayyyyyyy at the bottom of that list) I can tell you from experience that alpha-interpheron-A has the abolute worst side-effects I've ever had, or would ever want to have. I did interferon injections for 2 years to kill my Kaposi's sarcoma lesions (it worked btw) No vaccines for Hep C. I'm not sure I could go through Interferon shots again if I had to do it all over. It was a miserable shot. Pain in muscles, pain in joints, hair loss, fatigue, bipolar mood swings, chills, fevers, sweats, headache, total body ache, lasting 8 hours. I think that you and your new friend should meet for consultation with your Infectious Disease Doctor to discuss, in great detail, how to avoid spreading Hep C to you. I'd not listen to debate in the gay community or anywhere else where my life is concerned. Go ahead and get the facts from your doctor. I guess then ultimately, you have to decide is a new beau worth risking exposure to Hep C. Only you can answer that one. If someone asked you to walk through a mine field, and you'd have a 70%, 80%, or 90% chance of surviving it, would you? I know that for me, I am so scared of other's germs and bugs, that my next relationship, if I have one, will be sensual masturbation only. Period. And yeah, that can be romantic, you just have to use the imagination, and maybe a prop or two. Best of luck on whatever you decide, guffster75 wrote: I recently started dating someone who revealed to me that he has Hepatitis C. I am aware of what this is, but there seems to be a lot of debate among the gay community as to how we are more prone to contracting it, even though it is only thought to be through blood-to-blood transfer. They now think some types of sex also put you at risk. I am trying to gain a better understanding of what treatments are available and if anyone knows of any vaccine studies may be underway currently. Being already immune-compromised, I want to walk into this realtionship openly, but be smart about this too. Ring'em or ping'em. Make PC-to-phone calls as low as 1¢/min with Yahoo! Guest guest
Interferon-alpha is obnoxious. I used 5 mu (Mon, Wed, Fri) for years when the only alternative anti-viral was AZT. It worked quite well, but it was not pleasant. By comparison Interleukin-2 is a non-event. Using it for KS, you were probably using a dose of 10 mu or higher - perhaps even 35 mu. I just can't imagine what that is like. Well actually I can sort of. I mixed my interferon-alpha with the wrong amount of water one time and gave myself a 12 mu injection. The next morning I longed to be dead - but was relatively fine by that afternoon. > I recently started dating someone who revealed to me that he has > Hepatitis C.
