Guest guest
Hi and all- This is one of those times I think a scale to do a pre-post feeding weight comes in handy. Yes, it's just a picture. Yes, I've been fooled by babies who sound like they're swallowing only to figure out that it's really their uncoordinated tongue movements making all that noise. And yes, I've been fooled by the very efficient baby who's a stealth feeder.I agree with Dee's suggestion about the thyroid. I have a colleague who I'm personally convinced ended up postpartum thyroiditis. We struggled and struggled to have the thyroid checked; still makes me sad. I also tell moms that when we're making a change, it's a good idea to keep an eye on the baby's weight. I don't know how often the ped is having her come in, hopefully weekly. I use my standard " weigh within the week " if the pediatrician doesn't say anything. Without some objective information, it's difficult to tweek the plan, reduce/increase the supplementation, etc. Also, did you talk with her about galactogogues? Not the most thorough response, just what catches the eye before running out the door. Wagner-, MS, MFT, IBCLCRoseville, CA
