Guest guest
Life is getting back to normal around the Verissimo household. We moved 4 hours south in Reno in the central valley of California. It has made it much easier for my job to live here. I was having to drive an extra 3 hours every day living in Reno to work. It was really hard when the weather was bad. I left my two oldest in Reno to finish school. I miss them SO much. We are going to Reno this weekend to see them. It has been a couple of weeks since we last saw them. I do talk to them on a daily basis. Amy is in her third year at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR). Kelsey is a senior in high school, taking 4 advanced placement classes, three jobs, her horse, a ton of friends, and plans to attend UNR in the fall. It would not have been fair to her to make her move with us. Davey and Will love the new house. The school they are going to is really pretty wonderful. Will had a rough time at first with the change, and was very frustrated at school. We spent a lot of time in his class talking with his teacher. His teacher must have a lot of patience and has worked miracles. is loving school, going to the tutoring sessions twice a week after school, and not fighting us with homework now! Yeah. We had Davey's 30 day IEP today. It went well. We really love his teacher, and the program. There are 10 students in the class with a variety of disabilities. There is a full time aid, and two part time aides. The teacher is in charge of special Olympics for the county and plans to get Davey involved as soon as he turns eight! DAvey goes into the regular classroom with the other second graders (not 's class) every day. He participates in the English program, and also any special things the class does like assemblies, etc. He spend the rest of the time in the SE classroom working mostly one on one with the teacher or an aide. They also have computer all over the classroom. The goals we set in his IEP were very similar the the ones we had in Reno. He is also getting OT and speech. SInce the teacher is so athletic and does daily PE class with him, we decided not to do any pull out for adaptive PE, but the APE teacher does evaluate the program that the teacher does. He also takes them on lots of community outings. So far, in a month, they have walked to the doughnut shop close to the school, gone and watched pizza get made, and then got to eat it!, went to the zoo, etc..... He plans to take the whole class to Disney Land in May (brave man). Everyone is healthy and we are enjoying the warmer fall weather. Mom to Amy )her birthday is today and she turned 20), Kelsey 17, DAvey (DS) 7 and Will
